Getting too thin... help!

I never thought I would have to worry about getting too thin, as I have been obese all my life.  Well, it has happened!

I had an appointment with my PCP earlier this week, and she wasn't happy.  She asked me if I had lost weight since I had seen her last, and I told her that I had remained stable.... she said I lost another pound :(
Keep in mind, I'm just a year out from my surgery.  A lot of foods don't make me feel very well after I eat them.  I can eat about a cup of solid food at a time, eating small meals frequently throughout the day.

I also had my bloodwork done, but have not got the results back yet.  I'm really feeling run down... exhausted at at times.  I have been really good about taking my vitamins, but lacked protein shakes for a while when I was off work and could not afford them.  I'm pushing at least 4 protein shakes a day along with being mindful about choosing foods that are good protein sources.

I don't want to lose any more weight, but my body has a mind of its own.  Any meal suggestions that might help me?  I seem to do well at losing weight, but don't have a clue about maintaining.  My doctor doesn't feel that I'm getting in enough calories, as I have a really physically demanding job.

I feel so overwhelmed!

 Morning,

Sounds like you may be low on Iron.   That makes you feel tired and worn out all the time.   Maybe when you get your bloodwork results back you will have some answers to that question.   Are you unhappy with your weight now?   if so it is easy to add a few more calories to re-gain some weight.    You need to add up your calories and see just how many you are getting.    Also make sure that you get at least 60 g. protein a day.   Lack of protein can lead to health problems after WLS.    Hang in there....hopefully you will get some much needed answers soon.   Have a blessed weekend.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivivan

Hi Vivian,

I've also wondered if my iron is low.  Hopefully I'll find out on Monday, since I didn't hear anythng today.  My doctor had given me an rx for ferraplus, but wonder if that is really the best choice.  My previous labs were good.
Yes, I'm happy with my weight now, just don't want to lose any more, nor do I want to gain any either.
I ordered 8 of the 5 lb containers of Champion Pure Whey Stack... as I plan to keep up with my 4 shakes a day.   Then I ordered enough vitamins also to cover the next 3 months.  Whew that was expensive, but I have to take care of my health :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

When I'm not working, I also eat hourly.  I go through spurts of energy... then feeling completely exhausted.  Hopefully I find out soon as to why I'm so tired... ugh!

When I was try to stop losing, my nut suggested adding some olive oil to my meals and adding more nuts to my diet.

How tall are you? 149 doesn't sound painfully thin....

I'm 5'6, and at my current weight of 148 pounds, I am too thin.  My doctor figures that I have a minimum of 10 pounds of skin that needs to be removed... so she feels that would put me in the mid to low 130's, which puts me at the lower end of the normal range.

Even at 130 you are dead center of the normal BMI range. That being said, trust your Doctor! Don't count on a bounce back though, I haven't had one yet , I do however lose weight if I don'****ch myself. Right now I am recovering from neck surgery and got down to 109. I am back "up" to 112 as of today and still working to gain.

no sure how tall you are, are you below normal BMI?

I actually was glad to go below goal because typically there is a 10-15 lb bounce back after you hit bottom.

Goal: 145
Current weight: 133
I am 15 months post op.

But yes, our bodies will go where they want on the weight and will settle where they need to be irreguardless of what we want!

Maintenance is a whole new mindset and I too struggle to figure it out.  Can you eat more food in place of all those protein shakes?  I'm thinking that is like being on a liquid diet if you are doing so many per day.  Are you counting those as meals?  I eat 6 meals/snacks a day plus one protein shake.  I easily gain weight if I just add a few carbs or junk food....yes, I still struggle with avoiding the bad stuff!

Good luck.

I am 5'6"  at 148 pounds.  My doctor (PCP) figures that I have a minimum of 10 pounds of excess skin to be removed.  She figures that once I have plastics done, I will be in the low 130's.

My surgeon's NUT stresses the importance of protein shakes, and I don't count those calories as meals.... just as supplimental protein.  I still cannot eat very much at one time, and that makes it difficult too.  About 1 cup of dense food, and I can't eat any more than that.
