Seriously? Steri-strip allergy
I had my staple taken out yesterday partly because it was time and partly because my skin reacted to the metal in the staples. I ended up with an infection and am on antibiotics. I noticed last night after getting the steri strips put on that my incisions were especially itchy. I chose to ignore it.
Well, today I go to take a shower and I see this clear blob at the top of one of the steri-strips. My dumbass thought it maybe a ball of adhesive or something. So what do I do? I grab it and try to remove it. BIG mistake!! It was a blister. It busted, all kinds of grossness and pain. Upon closer inspection I have a blister on every piece of my stomach that a steri-strip is touching!!
What do I do? I've called the surgeon's office and I'm waiting for a call back. I'm hoping somenoe else has an answer. I would hate for someone else to of gone through this but I'm thinking I'm not a freak of nature lol. I don't do well with adhesives. I don't do bandaids. Just paper tape and gauze for me.
This hurts like hell. It's funny they didn't bother me until I was aware of them. I hate how the brain works sometimes.

I reacted to the op sites they used after surgery too. Those blisters JUST went away. Taking a Benadryl now.
This makes me so mad! I feel like I can't catch a break this week. To top it off I have only lost a pound because my body is holding on to all this water retention. I think my body hates me right now and is on strike.
Weird thing is after my c-section in 2009 I didn't have any issues with the staples or steri-strips.

I've always had an issue with some tapes and band-aids, but I too broke out BIG time with the steri-strips and the tape they used, and it was the hypo-allergenic tape!
Something about the more you're exposed to it the worse the allergy can get? But yes, Benadryl and hopefully the Dr. can let you switch to something that doesn't bother you!

I totally sympathize with your Steri-strip allergy because I have one too! I discovered mine when I had my gallbladder removed about 6 years ago. I got blistery welts under the Steri-strips. It looked like a really nasty chemical burn. My reaction to the Steri-strips took longer to heal than my incisions. Sorry you're having to deal with this. I am now a paper tape kinda girl! I made sure that was well understood when I went in for my RNY.
I was allergic (hives from knee to scalp, including esophagus, ear canals, genitals)
I used ice on the incisions (after removing the steristrips) and eventually the surgeon gave me steroids because the antihistamines weren't stopping the allergic reaction from progressing.
If surgeon doesn't call back in an hour, call again....and again.
My airway was CLOSING by the time the doc saw me, and it was becoming an emergency!
