So here I am 2 days to go till surgery. I am reading these post and I know everyone is different but they are saying at first they regret it, they can't hardly get the fluids in. Ugh.. I am getting pretty nervous. Then some say why did they do it to them self etc.. I know the good has to out way the bad!! Some also say the pain is bad and gets worse when you get home. Most people I read don't have much pain, I know I am just scared and reading all of this is not helping lol..Just some boost could help out lol..
It's time to put this weight behind and find the new me! Don't ever give up just keep trying!!

Jut remember that these people are reaching out for support because they are struggling, but there are thousands more that are doing great and just have not posted.  I"m one to tell you there can be complications, but life goes on!  I am 8 years post op and despite the problems I've had I would do it all over again!  There is pain because this is a major surgery!  It's normal to be scared and that's why we are here to encourage people along their wls journey.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

i am just a little over 2 weeks post op, i have had no problem getting any water down..i have been gettting in all of my protein and not having to drink a protein shake since just a couple of days home from hospital....i came home on purres phase the day i left the hospital...before surgery i was on diabetic medicine, high blood pressure medicine, high cholestral medicine and acid refulx..
while in the hospital i was taken off my diabteic mecidine, about a week home, i was taken off my blood pressure medicine, and cholestrol too...they fixed my hernia while in surgery so no more acid reflux, i was taking naps the first week of coming home, but then then during the 2nd week i was feeling great, my incisions were completely healed and scabed over and the scabs coming off by my 2 week post op drs appt...i eat slow, i eat way less than i did, so far the things i ate before the tastes have not changed....the only complaint i would say that i have is i think they took out my heater core during surgery....i have been pretty cold even in the hospital...i wear jammie pants, long sweater and blanket in the house and my hubby is sweating...fgo figure...when before surgery, i was ALWAYS hot....
i was just taking tylenol extra strengh for just a couple of days home from the hospital...everyone is different, and heals different and their surgeons are different with different plans for eating and drinking...but you have to decide if this is what you want, this is a major life changing decision, it can not be made lightely...before surgery i drank ALOT of water so post op it was about the same, no problem...i like it ice cold, not room temp or it has a metal aftertaste to me...yes i did have to do the chewables vitamins for 2 weeks, and they were nasty, i hated that part of it...but now i am on swallow pills and yes it is a pain ot have to try and get them all in, but i would rather take vitamins for the rest of my life and be off all my other medicines..i have had some constipation, but colace and fiber pills have helped that some..still trying to get that all worked out...
i hope this helps in some way as not everyone has problems post op..
please feel free to ask any questions you have
have a great day and speedy recovery

It is very normal to be nervous!  I did have some complications while I was in the hospital related to my condition and not having to do with the surgery.  I ended up in the hospital for 4 days.  Even though I had issues, not one second was spent about regrets.  You definitely cannot base the experiences that you read about and worry that it will happen to you.  The best you can do is to stay positive and go in with a positive attitude and follow what they tell you.  I truly wish you the best and that everything will go smoothly.  Good luck!

It's really normal to be nervous!  You're undergoing a major surgery.  I think it's more of the unknown that is the scary part.  The last two weeks I found I was absolutely freaking out!!  I want to say I read on here someone calling it the 'two week freak' lol.  I was SO nervous, I was even crying in the pre-op surgical room the day of the surgery.  I wanted to back out and run out of the room taking the IV and gapping gown with me.  I had three things done at once (gallbladder, hernia and bypass)  Did it hurt. Yep.  Did it last long?  No.  I was walking around the mall with my daughter two weeks out.  I definitely needed help the first week.  My mom came and took care of my family, their dinners, laundry, etc... I was so glad she was there.  I can tell you from my experience, I've had (knock wood) no complications.  No foamies, no dumping and no throwing up.  You will have a tough time getting the liquids in at first  but the farther out you get, the easier eating and drinking gets.  I found that having a strong support at home really helped me.  They were going to help me no matter what happened.  I was not alone and that was a comforting thing.  I'm very glad I was able to have insurance pay for this surgery for me.  I'm sorry I didn't do it ten years ago.  Don't let the thought of pain (you will have good pain meds) stop you.  Everyone is different.  When you're going through it, time seems to move slow, lol.  BUT looking back the discomfort really didn't last long.  Good luck and see you on the losers bench!  We'll save you a spot!

You can do this... I spent many nervous nights and then the day of my surgery I became calm and committed.  I am 60 years old with several health issues.  And I am feeling very well today - 12 days out. I have one incision that's not quite healed. Most of my pain was gas pain.  It hurt for a few days, but you will get through it and not have regrets. Good luck.

Hi,
I had RNY on Wednesday, was discharged on Friday and made lunch for friends today. I, too, was anxious and wondered if I was making the right decision. I am so glad I followed through. I only gaged when I had to drink the liquid when they did the Xray to make sure that I was leak-free. The tough part was waiting for the time I could drink water. I had no problems and I hope that you have the same experience as did I.
I vacuumed, swept, did the dishes and a load of laundry this morning, before my guests arrived. I pushed myself to walk in the hospital because I know that that would help me recover faster. I took my smart phone with ear buds and loaded up my Pandora with great music which I listened to while I walked the hallway. By Friday I was dancing a bit to the music. I am still on clear liquids and will try 4oz of a protein shake tomorrow to see how it goes.
I am thrilled at how easy this has been and I am grateful for my skilled surgeon. I believe he is the reason I have been problem free.
Keep a positive attitude and push yourself to get up and move. You will thank yourself later.
