I am almost 5 months post op, I am struggling alot with the foods I eat.  I dont know whats going on, I feel like its becoming an addiction or has been an addiction that I am just not starting to realize.  I think about food all day every day and I just want to eat non stop.  It really is driving me into a depression.  I dont know what to do to help myself fix this problem, should I just carry a bag of carrots with me and eat that at every urge I get to eat, I feel like this issue is going to make me fail.  I have not lost any weight in about 2 months.  I have stayed steady at 285-289 since March.

I dont know if its my eating habits or just a stall or the fact that I havent been going to the gym, I dont know, I wish I could figure this out and get back on track.  I dont know where to go for any help to figure this out and get on the right path to continue to lose weight.  Please any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I had this surgery to get healthy and even tho Ive lost 100lbs already and I feel amazing I do not want to stay in the 280s I want to continue losing weight I have a hard time with knowing what foods to eat, like do I absolutly cut out all fried foods, any and all carbs, and and all breads/tortillas, and basicly have only meats and veggies, im not a big fruit eater.

I feel like I am probly the one going thru this if anyone else has had similar issues please tell me how you got thru it or how your dealing with it.  There are no food supposrt groups here in this small town, so like an OA is out of the question cuz id have to drive over an hour to get to one, and I cant afford to drive that far.  Please any ideas any help, Im not looking to get put down or told anything negative as I am already dealing with major depression and this is the only place I have to turn to for any type of support or help, I am looking encouragement and advice and help. Thanks

Do you see a nutritionist at your surgery center? The nutritionist should be telling you what you need to be eating. Personally, I don't eat any fried foods at all, only whole grain bread and only every so often, protein first all the time and then veggies and fruit if there is room. As for carbs, there are good and bad carbs. Carbs from dairy and veggies are good and you want them. Carbs from junk food are no good and you want to avoid them. If you eat rice/pasta/potatoes have them sparingly. I weigh and measure everything when I am home, when I eat out I "eyeball" the ounces. I get over 70 grams of protein every day (most days are around 80 grams) and about 70 ounces of fluids. You need to get back to the gym or at least get out and walk. Exercise is very important. Are you sticking to not drinking with meals? I stop drinking 30 minutes before eating and I wait 30-60 minutes after eating to resume drinking. What do you eat in a typical day?

Highest weight = 272, surgery weight = 240, goal weight = 135

Kimberly,  have you had any counseling?  We have used food to cope with our emotions and feelings that are uncomfortable and surgery doesn't fix that.  Seeing a counselor isn't a sign of weakness or of being crazy.  It is a sign of using every possible outlet to overcome your food addictions and to learn healthy coping skills.  There is a cycle to our thought patterns that keep us prisoner as food addicts.  Please try to find someone if you can.

And secondly, I would surely be talking to Jerry the nut ever chance you get to try to figure out if you are on the right road nutritionally.  Are you drinking your calories?  Are you drinking during or too close after meals?  Are you eating enough?  You can track everything that goes into your mouth and the times that you eat/drink them for a week and send the food diary to him to evaluate it.  That is his job!

Good luck, sistah!
