OMG OMG OMG......
Hi - I will have my RNY on Wed too and understand your being nervous. My anxiety seems to be more focused on making sure I have the things I will need when I come home from the hospital. I began preparing several weeks ago - so I am basically going, and re-going over the items.
As for what things you should take along, there are several other postings with the same question that recvd great responses. The overall consensus however seems to be that "less is best". Since you have 3.5 hr ride back home, I would definately recommend bringing a soft pillow to hold against you for the trip. Here are some of the suggestions I found useful:
Baby wipes - for wiping off perspiration from pain meds as well as hygiene area
Lip balm - Ths is very important as your mouth and lips will be dry
Peppermint tea bags in a Ziploc bag to smell during bouts of nausea
Ear plugs - We all know how difficult it can be to try and
rest in a hospital. I am also taking a sleep mask to block out light - just in case I can try to sleep.
Extra underwear and sanitary napkins as many women experience the onset of periods right after surgery. The hospital supplies are, shall we say, not the greatest.
Several people suggest using the hospital gowns instead of personal garments due to the possibility of stains. If personal things are taken, gowns have been suggested over PJ's for ease of
movement and potty visits.
I understand that we may be more comfortable sleeping in the hospital recliner after surgery
than the bed. I picked up a travel type circular neck pillow for sleeping in the chair.
Robe & comfortable slippers to walk, walk, walk
Some have suggested a cell phone & charger if you will be texting others as a way to keep in touch
Of course comfotable, loose clothes in/out
Praying and BELIEVING for that all will be well and thar in no time you will be posting how great things are going for you. Please remember me too if you will - Prayer is a wonderful and amazing thing. ((((hugs)))) K

Yogurt

Eggs
Broths
Canned chkn/tuna
Pkg of Tyson ckn strips
Low fat cheese sticks (I think these are ok for my stage 3 diet - gonna dble check tomorrow. Also asking about thinned grits)
SF Hawiian Punch, Walmart SF drink sticks, Crystal Light*, Diet Ocean Spray Grape
I am a "saucy" person. I was glad when my nutritionest suggested having your protein moist to aid in digestion. So I found Heinz low sugar ketchup, a mild horseradish mix, low fat turkey gravy.
As for protein liquids - I bought Syntax Nectar in Pina Colada, ordered a sample pack from Unjury, and Choc EAS
*Be careful of the sodium content for the Crystal Light, A posting made mention of it affecting their weight loss,
I personally don't like the Gas-X strips. I prefer the tablets. They come in generic too. I didn't need anything like that at the hospital as the tablets were ordered by my surgeon and given to me routinely. Of course they all have different protocols.
I was an emotional wreck and cried when the surgeon and PA came in pre-op to talk to me. They asked me if I was sure and that it was not too late to change my mind. But I didn't! I knew that it was just how I am!
Sending prayers for a speedy and uneventful recovery!

You know, I was extremely nervous before my surgery. They did not give me anything to calm my nerves before hand. I strongly suggest you ask for some versed before you are wheeled back. I just had my gall bladder out and they gave me versed and I have no memory of the surgery room. A pillow is a must for the ride home. I would bring an iPod or eReader. I wish I had brought mine.
I highly recommend OASIS mouth spray. Your mouth will be very dry from the anesthesia and the fact that you can't have anything by mouth for several hours after returning to your room. I don't know what I would have done without mine. It has a nice minty flavor and keeps your mouth moist with just a single spray.
