Surgeon says it's common??
OMG! I went thru the same thing last week. I had been FINE since surgery til last sat when i eithe rpulled a muscle or pulled some internal stitches when i went to stand up from a sitting position. IT WAS HORRIBLE! Honestly hurt worse than i did right after surgery. I couldnt do anything all weekend but sit on the couch and even that hurt. Went to er that sat night and had ct scan that showed nothing. Went to see my dr on Tuesday and get this...he said it was all in my head! Told me to wear a binder and gave me more loritabs. Since having the binder its manageable but not gone and I dont DARE go w/out my binder, and i HATE the binder. I hope you get relief soon, try the binder though it REALLY helps...and is alot easier than constantly holding in your tummy with your hand like i was doing
They didnt give you a binder after surgery? I had one but didnt need it after suregry and threw it away....so i had to get a new one last week. Any medical supply store will have them, or call your dr office and they can tell you wehre to get one. And loritab is a pain killer, at 5 wks out I still have to take it in liquid form. Good luck! And yea, im not very happy with my dr at this point.
When I woke in recovery room I had a burning searing pain across my midsection. I felt , to be honest like I had been cut in half. I think the pain meds were for THAT, but I didn't take them as it was burning and searing - not stabbing or cramping or whateveor my silly brain was demanding to qualify for pain relief. I got good meds for going home - but never took them. Gradually, it eased up and disappeared, but took time. I am left (18 mos out) with a tugging, tightening sensnation under my left rid. Ultrasound, xray and grastroscopy show nothing - so since it is not painful, I've decided it is just me.. Hope yours fades away. If really worried, I would phone up the surgeon again.
About two weeks post-op, I got the same pain, just to the left of my belly button (not near an incision). It was really bad for about 1.5-2 weeks. It was a muscle that had been sutured up and the muscle needed more time to heal than anything else.
It was strange that I was doing really well, feeling only very little pain when it started. I actually stopped moving around as much until it healed and I slept as much as possible while upping my protein to help the healing process.
Hope that gives you a bit of peace!

I had exactly what you are describing about 2 weeks out from surgery. Before that, I was fine. Then one night, I went to stand up and thought my stomach was on fire. I went for two weeks - back and forth to the doctor's office where I was told to "just take the meds" (I swear, I thought I'd OD on liquid vicodin!) and that he told me this was a common pain...
I finally talked them into doing a CT scan and they told me I had "water build up" on a muscle. I didn't buy it - the pain kept getting worse, and my surgeon was on vacation. I went in and insisted they see me. I ended up seeing the head of the department. He felt my stomach and said "hmmm, I want to do a needle aspiration and see if there's anything there." He numbed it up, put the needle in and drew out some nasty green stuff. Long story made short - I had developed an abcess in the hole they put the stapler in. He said it isn't very common, but does occassionally happen. In my case, the abcess had gotten to the size of a canteloupe. They took me straight into surgery, drained it and I felt better immediately. I haven't had a problem in the year since. Good luck and bottom line - keep talking until they listen. You know your body best.
