OT Hormone Replacement?

I asked my doctor to prescribe HRT and he refused because he said it would only  help hot flashes, which I haven't had since my surgery.  He thinks it is too much risk.
I had a hysterectomy several years ago so I don't even know where I am at with menopause but I am 53 and things have changed in the last few years.  Mainly my sex drive has gone down and my energy level is low and I have had more problems then usual with depression.  Does HRT help with any of that and if so what kind do you use?

I use it. I use the Bioidentical  Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy that I rub on my inner thigh or arm. It absolutely helps with sex drive..I had a hysterectomy 3 year ago. It helps with mood and sex drive and fot flashes. Also, having your estrogen level were it needs to be will help in preventing bone loss...not that you cant still get it while using it..but it helps. My advice get some.

I am using the estrogen cream but I don't think it works systematically.
Is the bioidentical cream you use a progesterone cream?  Where do you get it?
I just ordered some online and I am curious is it is the same type.

I am on compounded hormones and am 58 just started about 6 mths ago. I had everything checked and am on a mixture of a few and my hot flashes are pretty well controlled. I was having other issues like not sleeping well and memory problems. The hormones also help with nerves. Also I had no sex drive and it has helped that also. You need to have in depth testing of all your hormones tested. Mine are a mixture of all the hormones, good luck I know I feel better since I began them.

My doctor won't test hormone levels, either.  He says it wouldn't be accurate because hormone levels fluctuate throughout the day.  Kind of frustrating to me.

They do fluctuate a little but that is why you try your first pres. and see how you feel and then they can adjust them. I did fine with my first month and have kept it the same. Maybe try a different DR. My primary didn't want to do that either so I went to my OBGYN and she is working with me. It also helps with incontinence. She also put me on DHEA. Do you have any cancer that runs in your family may that is why he doesn't want to do it.

IMO _ you need to change a doc.
I am on HRT> Bio-identical HRT.  I am of estrogen, progesterone (compound pharmacy trochee) and testosterone. WE need the male hormones.  My hot flashes are better, sleep is great. memory is improving and sex drive... is great (or better than great).  As good or better than when I was in my 30's.

HRT can be an issue for some Docs. Ihave been on for over 10 yrs, since surgery switched from teeny pill to patch, getting better results. As in all areas of medicine, we need a Doc who understands and will cooperate with out needs, not stick strictly to her/his own agenda. Jenny
