Smoothie Question - too much?

Every morning I make myself a smoothie that has the following: 1 cup 0% Greek yogurt, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 orange (small), 1 banana (medium) and 4 strawberries.  This has around 45 grams of protein and makes about 2 cups of smoothie.  I can drink this all in about 20 minutes but is this too much? remember due to Italian standards I was given an 8 oz pouch so I have a lot more room than most of you.

I would worry more about the carbs from the fruit but if this satisfies you and you are happy with your weight loss that it must be working.  If you aren't happy with your loss or you stall then you may want to cut back on this.

Not, sure but, OMG I would die drinking that amount. I can barely handle 1 cup of anything 6 months out. I consume around 800 calories per day. 1 cup of anything is another question?? if that is your morning diet.... what are you consuming your other meals for the day???

1 cup of anything would take me 30-45 min to consume 6 month post op.

I have an 8 oz pouch and actually have a hard time feeling full after eating many things.  This is my main "meal" of the day,  at around 11 I try to have a protein snack.  My lunch is usually around 2 and is half a salad with some chicken or beef on it and for supper I usually have the rest of my lunch or a sliced turkey breast with an egg or something like that - As the day goes on I eat less.  Even with this smoothie I have a hard time getting my 80 grams of protein in a day.

I do not have a NUT or a doctor that is really interested in my diet and I'm not satisfied at all with my weight loss.  I find it very hard doing this in Italy where they don't have weight loss products such as sugar free items or low fat items.  I seriously thought I was doing good with my diet but now I think I've been totally off base.

Can you guys offer any suggestions?

You are still to early out to feel full.  So measuring is your best bet for how much to eat.  Because you can eat that much doesn't mean you have to eat that much.  I, too, would be concerned about the carbs.  I have done much better losing by staying low carb, like most days under 20g, some days under 40g.  It is all pretty much slider food also so as you pour it in, it is going right through.  The rest of your day looks good.

You are right.  I honestly never connected the fruit with carbs.. when I think of carbs I think of bread and pasta, etc which I always stay away from.  I definitely will adjust things and hopefully I will see some real progress!

Thanks for the feedback ladies!

I could drink that in that time line, but I wouldn't. As others have said, too many carbs (and too many cals).

Don't aim for full, aim for not hungry.

Try 1/2 cup greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of milk, a scoop of vanilla protein supplement , half a banana and a few strawberries. That will make a smaller, more carb-wise but still protein rich shake.

Thanks, that is a good point about not trying to be full.  I think I need to get over some head hunger.  I'll try your suggestion

I didn't understand your Italian standards until I read under your name. Ok. Makes sense now.

How many calories does your program recommend a day?

This is about how many calories your shake is (I'm guesstimating):

Greek yogurt: about 120 calories
Scoop protein powder: about 100-130 calories
1 orange: about 60 calories
1 banana: depending on the size about 100 calories
Strawberries: maybe 25-40 calories

So that's over 400 calories. Depending on how many you are allowed a day, that's a BIG chunk of your daily caloric intake. Also, the shake you are making isn't really a protein shake. It has more carbs than protein so it's a shake with a decent amount of protein (if you don't get the distinction I can elaborate but I'll leave it there for now).

Some ideas for subs:

1. Strawberies are fine. Good fiber. Keep those.
2. Do you have access to sugar-free banana pudding mix. Way less calories/carbs.
3. Do you have access to orange extract? No carbs, no calories and you only need a drop. They sell it where they sell baked goods. If not, you might see if you can get True Orange shipped to you. That stuff gives you orange flavor without all those carbs.
