Five months post-op and two month stall

I had my surgery a week after you and I eat under 1000 calories a day.  I was having a lot of stalls and have just realized that it was because of all the fruit that I was eating - there was way too many carbs in it.

Good Luck, I hope you find your answer!

Thanks Sue...what do you eat daily now?  Is fruit completely out of your diet now?  I get hungry now on the 1200 calories.  How do you keep f rom getting hungry on 1000 calories or less?

I find that by eating every couple of hours it keeps me from being hungry and I have pretty much cut the fruit out except for strawberries.  To be honest I was in a stall and it was brought to my attention the number of carbs I was eating in the fruit on Monday and since then I have really watched them and have lost 7 lbs.  Here is what I ate today, mind you it is lighter on the calories than usual but it will give you an idea:

Breakfast 7:00 am - My protein shake which I just mix with water and choke down
Morning 10:30 am - a Maxi Form high protein cookie
Lunch 1:00 pm - 2 turkey rolls with a scrambled egg split between them and some green pepper and cheese
Snack - 4:00 pm - FF/SF pudding 1 serving
Dinner - 7:00 pm - going to eat this in a few minutes and it will be 4 or 5 turkey meatballs with some spinach and about 1/2 cup of strawberries.

I might have another protein cookie as a snack later or not depending on how I feel but up to this point (as per Sparkpeople) this adds to 636 calories, 26 g carbs, 21 g fat and 81 g protein.  I try to keep my fat less than 20 g but today it is a bit high because of the egg and cheese at lunch... maybe I should try just egg whites instead...

Especially considering my recent bad decisions, I am no expert in this but hopefully Nik or someone more knowledgable will weigh in    Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your comments.  I think I am on the right path but I've always had a problemw ith carbs.  Before surgery if I cut out my carbs to 20 or less per day, I was able to lose and maintain.  Since RNY, I try to eat healthy by eating lean means, fruits, vegetables etc.  I have cut out all junk food, chips, cookies, fried foods, white breads, rice, potatoes, mac & cheese, etc.  I eat very healthy and I track everything but I think the problem is the carbs even if the carbs are in fruit so I think I'll start focusing on eating less carbs.  My doctor and dietitian disagree on the amounts of protein.  My dietitician says 80 and my doctor says 40 but on OH, I read 80 to 100 so I'm listening to the dietician.  I get 70 to 80 but will try to get in 80 to 100 and really watch those carbs.  Maybe I'll see some results.

Thanks again everyone.  I feel so much better to have had all of your comments.  Points the finger to my suspicion already....

My nutritionist recently addressed this issue at our 6 month check up. She said eating denser proteins (ie - dense meats) will sit in the pouch longer and help us feel fuller longer. She said eating soft foods (ie - yogurt, soups, refried beans, etc) will go through the pouch faster and make us feel hungrier sooner. I have noticed this myself. When I eat dense proteins - I can go 4-5 hours to my next meal without feeling hungry. When I do yogurt, I start feeling hungry within an hour or two.

For me, getting plenty of water in between meals also helps the hunger subside untill the next meal time, although this is often easier said than done, at least for me!

When I used to do Atkins, I was never hungry but I ate meats, salads, cheese, eggs, bacon, etc.  I didn't want to resort to that because of the high fat foods but I will do the protein shakes, salads with protein, boiled eggs in my salad, etc to boost the protein, reduce the carbs and lose the weight....I kind of thought that might be the problem but I wasn't really sure but I'll do anything to get this going again.  I feel so good now I don't want to stop losing...

You might adding a little more protein making sure it is whey isolate protein. It seems that when people up their protein intake to 100 gr and their water to 100 oz daily they seem to break thorough stalls a little easier. Get creative with protein drinks..they don't just have to be chokded down. I make a great one with Vanilla protein, almond milk, a shot of SF Caramel syrup, a few ice cubes all blended up. I also make a slurry of a scoop of Vanilla protein (25 gr) with tap water and add that to a cup of flavored coffee made with my Kuerig. Just be careful as some proteins don't do well with ho****er. I just stir my constantly. Of course, I don't get a real hot cup of coffee either. But that's OK.

I am on a project in Brownsville, TX and had my husband bring my GNC Whey Protein Powder with him.  It's chocolate and I generally use the Horizons Organic milk.  I haven't used it in a while because Dr. Garth told me not to get my protein from shakes anymore...that was on my six week check up. Looks like I'll start drinking them again in the morning for breakfast to boost my protein and to eliminate some carbs.

I feel you pain! I haven't lost in a month or so. I am six months out June 1st. My calories seem to be what yours are. So I think that's the problem, I to don't exercise that much, I have been doing more lately. I have lost 74 since the pre opt. But starting to get discouraged.

Hi Heidi,
I know I have been eating alot of fruit, which is healthy so I'm thinking maybe what Sue said might have something to do with my stall.  Even though the fruit is healthy, maybe too many carbs plus the Healthy Choice meals, and breakfast.  I work such long hours that it's easier to grab low-calorie meals and some fruit and I don't think it's doing me any good...low calories or not so I think I am going to protein on higher protein, less carbs (some how) and veggies.  Going to cut out fruit for now period and see what happens.  I am just concerned that after six months (the honeymoon period) that I'm going to just stop losing and I don't want to miss this window.  Are you eating the same things as I am?  Packaged low calorie meals?
