Getting ready for my surgery this week!! Few Questions!!
Hi Holly
I had surgery 12 days ago. I posted a similar question and followed the advice of those going in before me. I was soooo happy to have chapstick! I took my own toothbrush and toothpaste for familiarity. I loved having my own fluffy robe when I walked. And I wore the same clothes home that I wore at check in. There were 2 items I had my husband bring to the hospital later that made my stay much better: fresh panties for when the catheter was removed and to just give me a sense of being a little "fresher" than I really was. And kandoo butt wipes. It was tough reaching around with tubes in my arm and a sore belly. The kandoos were refreshing and got things cleaner, faster.
Best of luck to you!!!

Lol, well I am down to counting hours instead of days for surgery (33 hours now...) so I will be going in just a little bit ahead of you:
Here is my list - it is long but I would much rather have something that I might want then not have it - even if I do not end up using it. Seems like a lot, but it all fits into one of my larger purses, (except for the CPAP) so size-wise it won't take up too much room. Items marked with an * are what the surgeon's office suggested.
Lip balm*
Favorite pillow*
Crocs (in a size larger than I normally wear - to wear home and for walking around)*
Something really comfy to wear home*
A robe that is easy to slip on and off (with short sleeves and oversized) for walking around without worrying about gaping gowns.*
Journal
Thank you notes
Pens/pencil
Phone (with a preset slideshow of photos of family, pet, quotes, reasons for doing this, etc., games, music, internet/e-mail, ebooks (for recreational reading and a lot of the books I found useful when researching the surgery in case I have questions or want to refresh my memory), contact list (including PCP, several people from my support group, and my counselor) and camera which reduces the amount of "stuff" that I might want)
Headphones
Earplugs
Personal care stuff (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, more lip balm, anti-chafing gel, dry shampoo, comb, rubber bands for my hair, cleansing wipes, unscented hand cream/lotion)*
Insurance cards and picture ID*
Insurance approval letter*
Extra undergarments
Medications*
CPAP machine*
Glasses case*
"Lucky" socks (overized, warm, comfy, and easy to put on)
Spirometer*
Magazines for light reading
I will also make sure there are more pillows in the car for the ride home along with a water bottle.
Good luck!
