Stalled for a week.. only 3 weeks out! X-post

I've tried so hard to not be irritated. I've seen plenty of folks go through stalls. My NUT even warned me that a stall was coming at about a month out. Well, since my 2nd week (last Tuesday), I've been stalled. Nothing. Not even a half ounce has been lost. Now I'm irritated.

I know the drill. Make sure you're getting protein and fluids, watch how much you eat, chew chew chew, get more exercise. I'm doing it all! I'm working on getting more protein as I'm just under 40g a day.

This doesn't do my state of mind any good. I'm trying so hard to stay positive... but now, I'm going through the doubt stage, wondering if I'll be the one in a million this surgery won't work for. But that's BS and I hate pity parties.

I'm frustrated and don't know what more to do.

Advice would be more then welcome.

Same thing happened to me... try not to stress, we are all different! just keep doing what you are supposed to do & they weight will come off. Do your best to ignore the scale, i still get on the scale daily but have learned that it is what it is, I no longer stress over it, i never seem to loose alot at once it just trickles off of me but i seem to always show a gain right before i show a loss. just work your program & stay positive. the end result will be awsomw no matter haow you get there. good luck & keep smiling, smiling does burn calories :)

I stopped losing weight @ 3 weeks out. I'll be 6 weeks out tomorrow and still haven't lost any more weight. I think I'm doing everything right. They want me to be eating 6 meals a day that are 1/2 cup each. I can only eat about 1/4 cup of food at a time. I can also only eat about 1-2 times a day. I suppliment with an 8oz  protein shake that's about 42g of protein. My protein goal is 70g a day. I have been getting 60-70g a day. I have been getting at least 70oz of water or crystal light a day. I have been walking on my ellliptical for about 45 minutes a day. I just got cleared for exercise so I have also been adding a biggest loser workout 3x's a week. TMI - I've only been having a BM every 3-4 days, but I don't eat that much, so I'm not too worried.

Trying to not get discouraged, but I'm in the same boat at you. Everyone says not to worry. Just follow the plan and keep doing what we're supposed to do no matter what the scale says and we'll start losing again before we know it.

I'm finding that the hotter it gets, the easier it is for me to get my liquids in. We keep the windows open and fans going all day till the sun starts coming through the front room window in the evening. Then we turn the ac on till the sun goes down and it cools back down. I refuse to run my a****il we finally get to move on base and don't have an electricity bill to pay. By the time they have a house for us, the summer will probably be over though. LOL

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today and was stalled all of last week.  I was keeping track of what I was eating, so I know I was eating less than 1000 calories a day.  I think some of it was water weight from eating too much sodium, but still I should have lost something.  I eventually just stopped weighing myself all the time and kept eating what I was supposed to and cut back on the salt.  I finally dropped 2 more pounds.   It's so hard to have gone through such a huge surgery and to eat so little food and then not see the scale move.  I read on another thread someone suggesting that the poster lock their scale in the car trunk, so they wouldn't be so tempted to weight themselves every day.  Good luck!

I keep forgetting that so many people go into surgery not knowing as much as I did when I went into surgery. I need to remember this and remind the members of things that they might not know in the future.

When I was going through surgery, I was ready for and expecting the inevitable 3rd to 7th week stall. I often forget that some newbies don't know to expect it. They should. You should be expecting it when it happens so you know that it is coming and you are mentally prepared for that period when the scale doesn't budge early out.

(and don't forget to take your measurements every week early out too so that you have something else to measure yourself by other than the scale).

When your body first goes into surgery, it knows shortly afterward that it is starving. It needs food but you are taking in such little nutrition after surgery that it tries to sneak your glycogen stores. Glycogen stores are the "quick energy" stores that allow you for instance to run out quickly if a mouse is on the floor. It's your "instant energy" in your body.

So your body thinks "hmmm...it's just a little hurdle, I'll get my energy from the glygogen stores".

Well after a few weeks of this, your body realizes that this is not a short term thing anymore. It realizes that using energy from your glycogen stores isn't very efficient and very long term. So it has to THINK a bit.

(This is where the stall comes in).

Then it says "A-hah!!!!". It realizes that it has a lot of fuel on your body - your fat stores, so it's going to start burning some energy from there and shrink those fat cells.

Then the body will resume into full burning mode and guess what? The scale will start moving again.

This is a GREAT things when it happens. Although it sucks that the scale doesn't move, it means that is going to start burning the stored fat you have (especially the stuff in your butt! LOL!).

So be happy about that inevitable stall - it's fat burnin' season!

You now have to reply with empathy to every "3 week stall" post you see for the next little while! It is frustrating and it is hard and this time it is you. But it will pass. I promise.

Also keep in mind that lots of us lose in a stepping stone pattern not a straight downward line. It's hormonal I think but usually around your period (sorry guys)

That is how I lost. For 3 weeks it would be minimal or nothing then whoosh. Then minimal or nothing then whoosh. Like going down steps instead of sliding down a hill.

hang in there
