I didn't have that option on pre-op diet. I was on meal replacement, sugar free Popsicles and protein or water drinks. The goal is to reduce your weight and reduce the fat on your liver prior to surgery because your liver is over your stomach.  I would call the doctor to verify.   This is just my 2 cents to what I was told by my doctor who started the program at your hospital. HIYA neighbor! heheh

Though the packet my Dr gave me states 3-4 Slim Fast or Sugar Free Instant Brkfst and the 64-70 oz water per day, for the pre-op diet, he ok'd pudding, cream soups strained, etc.  Even the OH site on the box to the right of the screen under I believe it is Nutritional Guidelines after Gas. Bypass has all of the phases listed with guidelines and cream soups are listed under the full liquid diet.

I start my liquid diet today and am going to try my hardest to stick with the 3-4 shakes per day and only as needed do soup, etc.  I have hypoglycemia, so will play it by ear as I need protein.

It really is amazing how different all the plans are!

Full liquids for me were protein drinks with a milk base. That's IT.

Oatmeal and cream of wheat are NOT allowed on my plan at any stage.
