Sickeningly sweet taste in my mouth...

Will this sweet taste ever go away? Starting about day 4 of the preop liquid diet I noticed that my saliva would get crazy sweet about an hour after one of my protein shake "meals". I googled it and it said that it can be either my body excreting artificial sweeteners through my saliva or its a sign that my body is in ketosis.  Either way, it tends to last for hours, sometimes all day. I drink water like crazy to flush the taste out, but its always there - like I have a sugar factory located behind each side of my tongue. Ewwww!

I'm hoping this will go away sometime? Maybe after surgery? Maybe not until I am eating more food and less protein drinks? Has anyone ever experienced this - I'm quite sure I'm not the only one  anything I can do but deal with it?

THANKS!!!

I am going through the same thing  *Yuck*  I also have more saliva in my mouth.  And gas,WTF!!!  I take alker seltzer and then I'm burping all day.  I brush and gargle but it keeps coming back.  When day are you starting your clear liquid.  I told my hubby I'm starting on Sunday.

It's not like I can have a meal with him anyway, so might as well.  I have surgery the same day as you.  What time is yours at?  I have to be at the hospital at 7am.

I also noticed that I don't want to drink any juice or diet drinks.  I just want to drink plain water.  Right now I'm forcing myself to drink a diet pepsi to try and get this taste out of my mouth.

The only thing that give me a taste change in my mouth is when I eat a fudge pop or ice pop.  Then about 30min later it's back to the super watery mouth and that awful taste.

Trust me I feel your pain!!!!!

I had the super sweet taste for about 6 weeks after surgery.  It did go away, also after surgery I had a tickle in my throat it felt like a hair that I couldnt get out, really annoying when I asked my doctor she said its from the surgery and your tongue swelling, LOL. So my saliva was super sweet and I felt like I had a hair down my throat!  Just when I thought it would never go away it did.
