My doctor in NYC charges self pay $16,500 for RNY including everything. If you can somehow get on Medicaid for a while all your costs will be completely covered. Maybe find a doctor first that takes your specific insurance and go for a consultation. His office will tell you exactly what the process would be and what you'll be responsible to pay for according to your specific insurance. They are usually insurance experts.

Thanks, I went to one doctor last year (it was $250 for the consult, but if I had had surgery the $250 would have gone toward that), his office was FAR from helpful with my insurnace.  They told me I needed to call them and find out what they covered and everything.  I'd already done that and pretty much hit a brick wall.  It was so frustrating.

I'm going to call a different doctor this time (there is not a lot of choices sadly), and see if they are anymore helpful on the financial end of things.

I can't get on Medicaid because my husband makes over the limit.  If I weren't married, then I would for sure, but we've been married 20 years, I don't think we could get divorced just for me to have surgery.....(although there are days when that sounds tempting...haha, just kidding!)

Thanks for the info!
