I know it can be difficult in the first week or so it's ur body detoxing from carbs and sugar. I also felt like you did . I found beef and chickem broth helped. I have also learned on here that all docs have different plans for the reduction diet. Mine i could have all the clear liquids i could stand and 4 protien shakes a day at least 6 oz each. I could add suger free syrups , or peanut powder. No fresh fruit. Even a spoon of sugar free pudding mix  was ok to add flavor to shakes . good luck hang in there u can do it !!!!!  after surgery trust me everyone is different but i wasn't very hungry at all. I'm 12 days post op and still ahving force myself to eat .

Here are a few of my thoughts for what they are worth. We are told the goal is to shrink the liver, which is kinda true. But from research I've done, you'd have to do this diet for months and months to get any actual shrinkage of your liver. I called my bariatric nurse about it, because I couple of days into it I went through what you are now. Actually I almost passed out on my husband and he insisted I call the nurse to see what the options (other than slimfast, sugar free jello and broth)were. She told me this:
The point of this whole thing is to put your body into a ketotic state where it starts to use all the extra gyclogen stores (sugar stores) in your body. It also helps because it burns fat around your organs, including your liver. When we gain weight on our body we also gain it in our body and around our organs. When we lose fat, one of the first places we lose it is from around our organs. If the liver is surrounded by fat it is slippery and there is a greater chance that it slips and gets knicked during surgery.

I asked the nurse if it was okay for me to have sliced turkey once in awhile to help with the hunger. She said to try to minimize it but not to beat myself up over it. I've also had pickles once in awhile and if you look at the nutrition label on the pickle jar, you can see why they'd be okay. At least up until yesterday. Now that I'm closer, I won't eat any solids, since I don't want anything in my stomach.

The broth is perfectly fine. You have to think about what the goal of the diet is - minimal to no sugar, minimal to no carbs and high protein. You need the protein to function and to keep from feeling like you're starving. I'm not your doctor though and its best to call them to be sure.

Good luck and hang in there. You'll make it. Its not easy, but it'll happen. Drink plenty of water and that will help. If all else fails, do like I did and lick a potato chip once in awhile.
I didn't eat them, but I admit to licking a few just to get a savory taste in my mouth!

I was told to get low sodium broths. I haven't though b/c I love my sweet shakes. I went on bariatricfoodie.com and got some great recipes for shakes. I got some sugar free syrups and sugar free jello to add to them. But, I found the thing that helped me the most was making the shake thicker. She has a link called the Triple X on her blog and it makes them so filling. Now I KNOW I won't be able to handle the triple x method after surgery for a while. For right now they are getting me through. Honestly I have "slipped" 3 times. 1x on a tbs of natural PB, 1x 2tbs of regular PB and 1x on a protein bar. LIL I am not beating myself up.

I am right there with you!  Today is day 4 of my 10 days...Day 1 and 2 were the hardest.  I literally cried for an hour on Saturday.  We can do this!
My saving grace has been SF popsicles, SF jello, SF pudding, no sugar added applesauce, broth and tomato soup.  If I want something solid, I'll eat a popsicle, if I just want something filling, I have been having some cream of wheat (thinned) and a glass of skim milk...last night after my tomato soup, I was actually full!  I defintely think its a mental think, and just a few more days!

Oh man it's so nice that there are other people out there going through this.  You're doing great!  It's so funny how the mind can play tricks on you.

I am SOOOO happy I am not the only one going through this. I cheated today and have felt awful. I have been doing pretty good other then a cheese stick in a emergancy.  But today was a full blow out I felt so bad after wards that I mad myself sick to my stomach. I am on day 7 of my 14 day liquid diet and I am not allowed any cream soups or sf pudding (I wish I was), I am only allowed up to 5 protein shakes, 2 sugar free Popsicles, sf jello and water. I will have to try the pickle thing but I have found that a cheese stick works in a emergency and crushed ice ( for me specifically sonics) the idea of "chewing" makes me feel full. Its almost done and I know it is possible so follow the "yellow brick road" and see you on the other side soon!

Aww, don't make yourself sick with worry, you can do it!  The cheese stick is a good idea.  I actually made some homemade kale chips yesterday- tore off a bunch of kale, sprayed it with cooking spray and added some spices, baked it on 300 for like 6 minutes until it was all crunchy.  It gave me something to chew, and nobody has ever gotten heavy off of kale.  That's my theory anyways.  Pickles are a god-send.  This whole thing is such a trick on the mind because if you get it in your head that you want something it's just easy to obsess and obsess over it.  Good luck, you're almost there, that's so exciting!
