I am one week post-op tomorrow and the left side of my belly is soooo swollen right under my boob.  Could it be gas?? Is it that I am still SUPER swollen???  I can evensleep on my sides yet cause of the bloating.  How long does this usually last cause its starting to get annoying and bothersome cause it hurts to walk still

That is where my reminant stomach was stitched up to the abdomen wall. I couldn't lay on either side for at least 3 weeks because of the falling sensation of my internal organs...plus it was just painful pulling on the stitches. I couldn't walk without lortab until they pulled my stomach drain at 3 weeks.

Do you still have a drain in your stomach?
When is your follow-up?

You are just a week...don't panic. The swelling will go down by week 3 or 4 and you will feel more normal. I am a side sleeper too and it took me 3 weeks to be able to attempt sleeping on my side without feeling weird pulling which made me nervous. It was 3-4 weeks before I felt back to my old self, and now I'm nearly 5 weeks and feeling great. You will too!

Take some gas-x either chewable or dissolvable strips and see if that will eliminate the pain. I was always taking those chewables early on to get rid of the gas. Have either of you had a BM since you left the hospital?

They are not supposed to release you from the hospital until you have a BM. I'd call your surgeon just in case to describe the pain.

Great! If that doesn't work start taking Miralax 1-3x/day. An enema probably wouldn't hurt either since you aren't getting any solids. You just have to keep those intestines going so you doing lose muscle tone.
