Not at all.  I bought one at Walmart that was reasonable price. I enjoy it just riding around my little town hehe.

No, you aren't too big!    I bought a bike at Dick's Sporting Goods that has a comfort seat with some shock absorbers... it was in the $200 range.    I've ridden it on wood trails, in the park and the road.

And the saying is right... "it's like riding a bike"... once you know how, you always know how!   Wear your helmet though for safety     And enjoy!!!!

Hee, I ordered one yesterday from Walmart.

Don't know what you consider a small fortune though.

Weight was a consideration, and I had to find other sites to make sure that I was not over the weight limit. Cheaper the bike, the less weight they seem to hold. I also worried about just plain fall off or over. Very long time since I have been on a bike.

So I ordered a three wheeler!

Schwinn Meridian Adult 26-Inch 3-Wheel Bike

$260 with free shipping to my door.

Rarely order from Walmart but had gift cards and they had the best price by quite a bit.

Basket holds books, groceries, dog...and I can bike along next to my 3-year old cousin on his trike. Lol!

Ridiculously excited about the thing and want to get right on it (am 8 days post-op for the record).

Not trying to hijack the thread....but I so want a 3 wheeler!  I ride bikes but frankly....I tend to fall over.    I have been looking at them but I think my DH is embarassed by the prospect of being seen with me on one.  Personally, I think it would be less embarassing than the times he has been with me and I have fallen down in front of the world but men are silly.

Congrats on the trike!

I started this endeavor at 280lbs and ride a bike all the time.  We got mine from walmart and its more like a cruser than a speed bike, one speed and easy to operate.  Good Luck!

No!!!  I bought a cute beach cruiser when I weighed 300 pounds!  It was very comfortable to ride, and I loved it!  I even bought a little bell that says "I love my bike"  I put a cute pink basket on it and love it!!!

Good luck and ride away!!!

Trikes may be a good option, especially if you any balance issues. BUT, I'd stay afrom the $99 specials and expect them to do well with 270 pounds.  Better bikes have higher wt ratings, but you'll pay more for them.  I just got a Puma Pico bike, a 20 inch, larger frame, stainless steel spokes, able to fit riders up to 6' 5" in height, cargo backet built into bike, and the whole bike weights in around 27 pounds, and it's on 20 inch rims, 8 speeds, etc.  I'd never would have paid the $800 plus retail price, but I did find it under $300 (free shipping) from a group that donates part of the product price to educational projects for schools.  Bike is easy to ride, and well worth what I paid.  Auction sites may have nicer ones cheaper, but you'll have to check the specific models on Google, to get details on wt restrcitions. So glad to see this post. I used to mountain bike on wooded trails in high school and college (135 pounds and in top shape) but now I feel like I have to be a certain weight now before I go back to my beloved sport. I'm getting a bike!
