Insurance Blues
Spoke with Dr. Colquitt's patient advocate yesterday and made an appointment to have yet another test done on Monday, this one to test for bacteria in my stomach. She asked how my weight loss was going. I told her I was down to 313 since my last visit in February. After we hung up I pulled out my trusty binder with all my paperwork in it and discovered my last weight in February was...313! I was so disappointed. Shortly after that visit my insurance stopped paying for my Byetta (a diabetes medicine) and I had to go on glucophage then on Januvia. Both made my appetite increase drastically and my weight started to rise. I got back up to 330 before my doctor and I decided to go to battle with Blue Cross Blue Shield to get them pay for my Byetta again. She gave me a sample of Victoza (a newer, improved form of Byetta) to tide me over and my weight started to come down, back to 313 to date. This is getting pretty old, being denied medicines because they want me to take older, cheaper meds. It's being my experience that my doctor knows a lot more about what's good for me than their "experts." I hope we don't have the same problem when time comes to file with my insurance.
