What point were you able to jog after surgery.  I have tried several times to jog when walking on the treadmill, and I can NOT jog for more then a minute and a half, and thats forcing myself to go that long.

I had to stop cuz I felt like my head was closing in and I guess like I was gonna pass out, IDK why it would cause me to feel like that.  I was wondering at what point were you able to jog for more then a minute??

I'm pre-op still, but it sounds like endurance is what ya need, the head closing thing is running out of breath, extreme though. I have always been active so I am not a good judge but I can jog for 4-5 minutes at a time with a fast paced walk in between to rest. I would say start out walking for 20 minutes, and the next day or day after up the pace a little then after you feel like you are almost jogging, walk, then jog 1 mnute and wlak 4, jog 1 walk 4. once you feel like you have got that down, up your jogging to 2, or lower your walking to 3 min rest.  Good luck!  check out couch to 5k also, or C25K :)

What pace are you jogging at? I started at an incredibly slow pace in February -- both to save my breath and to save my bra. :)   I have RunKeeper on my phone, and it tells me my minutes per mile. I started at 22 minutes per mile; that means slow walkers could pass me. But the additional stress of jogging slow vs. walking still means you're working your muscles, heart, and lungs harder, and that will make them stronger, so it's worth doing even if you think you look silly jogging at that pace. If you're on a treadmill, don't go over 3 mph, even if it feels like you're standing still. When you can jog 20 minutes at that pace, then bump up the speed.

I'm up to 15 minutes per mile now, which is still slow, but a big improvement over 22 minutes per mile. Just jog very slow, walk when it takes real effort to talk, and jog again when you get your breath back. You might also get a heart rate monitor and look up your optimal heart rate range for fat-burning, cardio, etc. Then you'll have an easy way to tell whether you're pushing yourself too hard. I have one that cost about $50 from Timex. It's a chest strap and a watch. They make ones with a lot more bells and whistles, but this one just does exactly what I need.

If you keep that up 4-5 days a week, you'll be jogging straight through your workout in no time.

on the tread mill I tried jogging at a fast paced walk for me was like 3.5 I tried jogging slow to that and was only able to go a minute and a half, I have never been able to run, atleast not since I was in elementary school and even then I was winded and out of breath very easy and fast. I walk for 30 minutes a day on the tread mill at a 3.5 to a 3.7 depends on my legs. I have no problem walking that much and would go longer but my gym only allows you 30 minutes on the treadmills, to allow everyone a chance. I will try jogging at a slower speed, thanks!!

I am two months out and started jogging about 2 weeks ago.  I walk for two minutes and jog for one minute.  I will slowly increase the amount of time I jog each week.  I usually jog between 5 and 5.4 on the treadmill.  I walk at 3.4.  A lot of people have had success with the C25K program.

I am not an expert on this, but it may be a problem with how you are breathing.  I have read that you should do it on a 3-2 pattern.  Inhale through your mouth for 3 steps and exhale through your mouth for 2 steps.  They said to practice it while walking so you get used to it.  I do know if I am not breathing correctly I feel like I am going to hyperventilate.

good luck.

My dr released me for full strength excerise after 4 weeks postoperative. I was in the hospital for a week due to complications of a bleeding ulcer so last week he released me again for excercise.
At the gym I usually walk at a speed of 3.5 at a 5 or 6 incline and I try to start my warmup by jogging. I can jog appx 2 mins at a time at a 4.4 speed and then I will walk for 3 mins and jog again. I try to jog atleast 5 mins in a 1/2 hr workout as a "warmup". However, I find walking at a swift pace at a decent incline burns more calories than the jogging (according to the treadmill at the gym).
