Stupid question-Advanced to stage 2 today 1 week post-op

So, I had my one week post-op appt and my dr and NUT advanced me to stage 2. So, I decided for dinner I was going to have a sugar-free pudding. My nut said take 30 minutes to eat. So, I take 2 baby-spoon bites, putting my baby spoon down in between each bite. I feel so full. So do I wait until that eases up (if it does)and continue eating for the rest of the 30 minutes or am I done.
Honestly, I would prefer to stay on stage one another week but they feel I am ready. I also had a hiatial hernia repair.

Yikes I didn't realize sf pudding was stage 2. I have been eating it since I got home from the hospital! It was on my full liquid diet pre=op so I just assumed it was okay. Ugh...I hope I didn't mess up my pouch already!

I would say that if you have measured your two ounces (or whatever your Doc has you on) and after you have two bites you are full wait a bit and see if you want more within that thirty minutes.  If not, I say your done.   Don't forget to try to get your protein in.  Maybe a bite or two of some refried beans or something.

Hi Shelly,
Congratulations! You made it through the first week. It starts getting easier from here.

My thought is that you should stop when you feel full. But more importantly, focus on getting in protein first. Those first few weeks/months, you won't be able to eat too much, and protein always needs to be the priority. If you're going to have the pudding, perhaps mix in protein powder?

That said, for ANY questions I think you should contact your NUT -- that's what s/he is there for!

All the best on your journey to better health,

Laura

Thanks, Mindy! I used a free online photo collage site called picnik.com , which made it really easy to make comparison photos. (I got the suggestion from someone else on OH.) give it a try!

Wow, they gave me SF pudding in the hospital as my first dinner.  I ate about 10 bites and felt like I was over stuffed.  I say stop when you are full, that's what I would do.

I couldn't have SF Pudding until I was a week out as well, but I stayed on that stage a few extra days because I wasn't ready.  I was on clear liquids until then.  What I did on that stage (and still do) was measure EVERYTHING.  I had only 1/4 cup or 2 ounces at a time. The first week I could never finish all 2 ounces, but I'd put it up and try again a little later when I wasn't uncomfortable.

I had a hiatal hernia repair too.  I was having a hard time taking deep breaths and coughing which my surgeon said was due to the repair.  It took me forever to get from Stage 2 to Stage 3 because my body just wasn't ready.  Your body will let you know when you're ready to move on.
