Prepping for plastics--eating/exercise advice??

Despite the fact I'm still a good 15-20 lbs from where I'd like to be, I am going to be pursuing plastics this fall. Hoping for a lower body lift unless the surgeon doesn't believe I need that. Anyway, wanted to know what you did to prep for plastic surgery. I've been eating less than perfect lately due to some very stressful things going on at home. I want to get that in check and really eat clean these months leading up to surgery.

Did you do special exercises in prep or eat a certain way?

Thanks for any suggestions!
Denise

Your chosen plastic surgeon will likely have recommendations for you. I know that plastic surgeon that speaks to my support groups stresses getting extra protein the last 30 days or so prior to surgery. He wants patients to take around 90g or protein shakes per day. He's stated that the buildup of protein will aid in the healing process after his surgery.  Can't vouch for specific instructions your chosen surgen may make. DAVE

When I was about to have my panniculectomy my surgeon did go over nutrional things to keep in mind.  I also started to try and strengthen my muscles.  Seeing as how I would be weak in my core for awhile I knew that I would be depending on my other muscles to do everyday things, at least for a little bit.

I am planning on having an inner thigh lift with outter thigh lipo either in Feb. or next summer, depending upon work restrictions.  My surgeon told me this is the hardest of the surgeries to recover from, just based on where the inscions will be and how major the surgery, for me in particular, will be.  So I am on an all out leg toning mission.  I want there to be a distinct difference in where there is only skin, and where my muscles are.  I want to be able to be strong enough to withstand what I am imagining to be a pretty major surgery.

Maybe just add some exercise to your regime.  A personal trainer would probably be more than equipped to help you strengthen your core!

Hope this helps,
Sarah

I am 6 weeks post fleur de lis (anchor cut) abdominoplasty and brachioplasty.

I upped protein from 100gm to 130 gm per day one month prior to surgery and still keeping it that high (I have a complication - open wound- so need the protein to heal.)

I mostly walked to strengthen my legs - since core and arms would be out of commission.  I also did abdomen strengthening.

I made sure to get all vitamins and supplements.  Took extra vitamin C and kep****er at 100 oz a day.

Make sure to take stool softners with any narcotics so you don't get constipated.

Congrats on your surgery and sorry about your complications. The protein recommendation is an excellent one. And very good advice about the stool softener--I know how hard (pardon the pun) narcotics can be on the stools.

So are you thrilled besides the wound issue? Does your procedure address your rear or thighs indirectly at all?

Thanks!!

Thighs and butt were to be the 2nd procedure.  My plastic surgeon will only keep people under anesthesia for 6 hours max.  My anchor cut TT (called fleur de lis) and brachioplasty took 5 hours.

I was going to wait a year or so.  With the complications of the TT - (not to mention the pain and recovery process - an anchor cut is so much worse than circumferential or hip to hip incision), I think I may not go through with butt and thighs.  I'm 62 years old now and look good in jeans and pants.  PS says I have 7#+ of loose skin in thighs and butt - but I don't plan to wear an swim suit or shorts anyway.  I'm afraid I could have skin necrosis on thighs or butt and just don't want to chance it.  Guess I'll just keep it covered.  Maybe after the open wounds are healed - I may forget about the discomfort - kinda like after going thru pregnancy and labor!!

Hubby of 44 years really doesn't care and will support whatever decision I make.

Good for you!! Increase your cardio. It will help with your recovery. Make sure you are taking all your vitamins and supplements. Eat right. Increase your protein. Pretty straight forward. The better shape you're in before surgery, the better your results after surgery will be. I just had a lower body lift with buttock auto-augmentation and breast lift 8 days ago. I only really had 2 bad days. I think that was because I was in good shape going in. I have pics on my profile, if you're interested (password: abc123). I am beyond thrilled with my results so far, even though I am still pretty swollen.

How exciting for you!! I'll definitely check out the pics. Did insurance cover anything for you? If not, am I horribly rude to ask what it cost. PM me if you'd prefer or ignore that question! I'm hoping for a lower body lift since I hear it addresses buns and outer thighs a bit. Want inner thighs done too bit we'll see. I'm doing pilates often in addition to my 3-5 time weekly cardio and 2-3x weekly weight training. Of course abs are in there too!

Getting excited. I look at it like having a very ugly reminder from a not so happy time removed and regardless of the results I am thrilled to have this damn skin GONE!!

Thanks and keep us posted how you are doing!
