Chocolate Cheesecake Protein Ice Cream. Mmmm. Healthy ice cream breakfast. Yey! Lol.
That's why I mention that. So hopefully you can learn on my mistakes and not to repeat them.
And as you can see - my "blunt" comment started a discussion... and we are here (at least I am) to learn and to help each other.
Tanks to some people posting about danger of not taking the correct vitamins and minerals or not enough of them - I am so far so good (except iron) in my blood work.
But - not many people mention about danger of all the chemicals that the companies put in that food - that become staple in a diet of many post op WLS people.
I do not advertise organic - I wi**** would be possible. But it is not. But - more "real" food, less chemicals.

I buy my milk from directly from the people who take it out of the cow’s you-know-what. J There is a dairy that sells at my local farmers market. Once I figured out that our milk consumption is such that there isn’t much price difference (and I am sort of charmed by the reusable glass bottle) I was like sign me up! Their dairy is hormone free.
For the ice cream, it’s a tricky thing. There are lots of things that can produce a creamy consistency. Few of them beat the stats of the pudding. For instance, bananas can easily mimic the consistency of pudding in a blended frozen treat, but we don’t want the carbs and calories.
I don’t know how busy you are, but I have taken to (when I make full on protein ice cream) making my ice cream from an actual ice cream recipe (eggs and all) and just adding protein to it. It actually doesn’t take that long and tastes much creamier. It still freezes solid in the freezer (no softening agents in it to keep it stable at scooping temperature), but I just leave it out on the counter a few minutes and it’s fine.
I also don’t use fat free anything in ice cream. If I truly consider ice cream a treat to be moderated, I don’t see why, since I’m not eating it often, I should not splurge on ingredients that will yield the best taste and texture. Adding protein, to me, just sort of sweetens the pot (pun totally intended).

I stop using the SF puddings and jello.
if you want - need to add some thickness - you cna use other product once in a while - some starch as thickener... (that's where the carbs in SF pudding coming from).
You can also use arrowroot, or even kudzu powder... (not as good, but you may try)
Arrowroot
Arrowroot is a food thickening agent that is similar to cornstarch because of its appearance and thickening power. It is derived from the roots of several tropical plants. It produces a clearer finished product and it is more expensive than cornstarch.

I was using things like that for over a year. And then developed serious issues. That nobody knew what to do with. Once I discontinue most of the chemicals - most of my issues disappear or I am able to deal with that. When I do eat something that has splenda in it - or some of the chemicals that are in the products - I get sick.
This is not "a hater" but someone who cares and is willing to waste her time to tell people.
From the poster answer - looks like she gets it. You on the other hand - need to learn how to read. and comprehend what you are reading.
Once you develop issues due to the chemicals - don't tell me you did not know.

Back to the chemical topic, do you use any sort of protein additive, ie, protein powder or do you get all your protein from food? I'm not super-consious of most things, but there's a lot of stuff in protein powders!
BTW: I use protein powder... I wish I could use all natural, organic, etc, etc... but price wise - for the amount I need - that is prohibiting...
I do found a great natural product - as natural as they can be for the price I am willing and can pay.
One of them (I do love them) is About Time Whey Proteins - Whey isolate (~$30 per container on line) - many flavors and the company claims no artificial flavoring or additives. They use stevia (I can tolerate it quite well) as a sweeteners.
I use unflavored whey protein - also ATW, or some other - as long as there are not many if any additives.
I also use MRM brand whey concentrate the natural line - they have 2 flavors that are good - and that I can find on line for ~20 for 2 lb container: the Dutch Chocolate and French Vanilla.
I use some protein bars - mostly natural. (found 2) Then I do use things like nuts or cheese as snacks. Plus normal food. Meat, eggs, fish, yogurt, cheese, etc.
I do need 120-160 gr of protein per day for my blood level to be mid normal. Less than that and I was low normal.
I do cook a lot and freeze food. I bake protein muffins, make natural ice cream (very low sugar) make my own protein cookies, bars, etc.
It can be done ...
the prices I mentioned :
I mostly shop at:
www.luckyvitamins.com
http://www.vitacost.com/
Plus other sites. But the 2 of them had usually great prices and with combined shopping - I get my shipping free...
