What is it like right after surgery?
I didn't go home with a drain. First week sucked really bad. Next month was hard, tired getting used to not eating, now I'm 6 months and its nothing but a distant memory, so worth it! I'm 11 pounds to a normal bmi and couldn't be happier, my body works better and I have so much energy. It's so worth it!
I had surgery on Monday, 7/11. I've been up and down in terms of pain. MY procedure was laparoscopic and no drains but still, my pain was up to a 7/10 and hard to control. Every day it's gotten better. I'm trying to focus on the positive since it's been harder than I expected. I spent 2 nights in the hospital but it's so much nicer being home! Don't think about the process...since you never know what it will be like until you go through it. Everyone is different so hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones with little to no pain. Good luck.
I had a revision on 7-7 and was in the hospital 4 days, I had a lot of corrective surgery. I also have a JP drain and will have it out tomorrow.
I have had very little pain, mostly gas. I am having a lot of trouble with protein drinks and am eating more greek yogurt. It's on my list.
The first thing I noticed when I woke up was no more rock sitting in my chest and I have not had reflux at all.

went into the hospital first thing monday morning. that whole day is a blur with no concept of time. i know it's way off because it feels like my parents were only there for 5 minutes after i woke up, but they were definitely there all day. i had a ng tube (came out that day once i was stabily conscious), a catheter (out the next morning, but i wish they would have left it in because it's a pain to go to the bathroom when you have all those fluids making you have to go constantly, and all the machines attached to you), and a drain, which i'll get too. i remember feeling bloated for a few days but not gassy and i felt no pain in the hospital. although until they took my iv out on wednesday afternoon i wa****ting that button as often as it would let me lol. i felt good monday and tuesday and was asking the nurses if i could go for walks because i was bored and one can only watch so many infomercials. when the ng tube came out it was a weird feeling but not painful, didn't even feel the catheter come out. wednesday i was exhausted and felt like something wasn't right, ended up the vein my iv was in collapsed (i have awful veins and i'm surprised it lasted that long), they couldn't get a good stick after that and i was leaving the next morning so they took out all of my ivs that evening. i hardly did any walking that day because i felt miserable. thursday they woke me up bright and early and said i could be discharged as soon as i was ready. they took out the drain, which definitely hurt, but it wasn't the most pain i've ever been in. waited for my mom to get there, and was on my own. i was tired for a few days, but by the middle of the next week i was dying to get out of the house. made a few small trips to target and stuff just to get out, and started back at work 2 weeks after surgery date, & i work retail so i'm on my feet and walking most of the day.
at this point in my journey i definitely think all the pain and struggle was worth it. i still get tired kinda easy (should get my labs checked), i still miss the "diet" habits i had, but in 9.5 months i'm down almost 90 pounds. went from a tight 24 to a comfortable 14, a 3x top to a large, and i should get my boobs measured again because my bra is getting big but from a 44DDD to a 38DD (i wouldn't be surprised if i'm a 36D now). The saggy skin sucks but hopefully that surgery will come in the next few years.
EDIT to say my surgery was laproscopic
