Anyone have a panniculectomy/abdominoplasty and hernia repair at the same time?  If so, can you tell me about it and how you did with it?

Thanks,
Michele816

I have 3-one is above my navel just to the left, one low in the groin and the other, I think, is between my navel and groin.

Thanks...I had a hernia prior to surgery; it was repaired.  Here recently, when I am at the gym stretching, a knot comes up.  It is rightt of my naval where the entry points are for my RNY.  A couple times it became so painful I immdiately jumped up and started walking and rubbing the spot.  That is the only time it happens. I'm actually afraid to stretch now.   I am concerned I may have developed a hernia in that location.  I haven't mentioned it to my surgeon yet.

I had a "surprise" hernia repair at the time of my panniculectomy (which resulted in my getting the full abdominoplasty).  I am very happy with the results!  Recovery was much harder than my RNY -- I had cellulitis in the area of one of my drains.  Had it not been for that, it wouldn't have been bad.

You should ask your doctor what the cost would be if you upgraded to a full tummy tuck with muscle repair. I know of too many people who were not happy with the panniculectomy.

Because of the hernias that need to be repaired, insurance shouldn't be an issue.  It may very well be a full tummy tuck because one of the hernias is above my navel.  It will be about 6 months before I have it done as I still have about 50 pounds to lose. I am just trying to gather information and find out what others have experienced to try and get prepared.  Thanks for the response.

My hernia is behind my belly button and I'm having the panniculectomy/abdominoplasty and hernia repaired at the same time on August 18th!  NOT looking forward to surgery but definitely looking forward to getting rid of all this sagging belly!  I'll let you know in a few weeks!
