2 weeks post op
My surgery was July 5. I experienced very little pain and actually came home with no pain meds. I have had precious little gas, nothing painful. Everything I have eaten has agreed with me. Grated, I am not bucking the system-following my doctor's diet to the T. I have been able to walk since the next day and have been going to the gym most days since coming home, walking 30-40 minutes each day at this point. I experienced a 5 pound gain while I was hospitalized, but have lost that plus 7 more. Oh and BTW, I ain't a young chick--I will be 51 in 10 days!
I have not questioned myself once why did I do this? I do not miss food nor am I miserable when I see commercials. I sit with my Bf every night to enjoy "dinner". I know my portions will change forever, but eventually I will be able to eat most things I enjoyed pre surgery. And if I can't, I can't. I am willing to give them up to have a healthier life.
My support system is fantastic! I have several family members and friend who have had WLS and guide me tremendously. I have a BF who supports me 100% and has never once made me feel weird for either being overweight (I was temporarily skinny when we met!) or for going though the surgery. And besides this wonderful site, I go to my doctor's support group weekly. I listen/read everything and take out the nuggets that are within my doc's guidelines AND that work for me.
I am writing this not to brag and not to make those not as fortunate as me to feel bad. I am writing this to show the new comers and the "thinking abouts" that not everyone goes through down phases in the beginning. In general, I am an optimist person and I am sure that is helping.
If I have some words of advise to those just starting the journey they are tobe optimistic! Follow your doctor's instructions to the T--they are the experts, we are not!! and just remember the goal--a healthier life!!
thanks for listening

I am very happy for you! Keep up the good work. I am two weeks out today surgery was 7/6/11 and pretty much you just posted my story, I have felt great too not using any pain meds, my family and I sit together for dinner them with food me with my carnation, following md orders to a t as well. I love watching the food network, commercials are not bothering me either. I also have been walking 30 min on tredmill since 2 days postop and I feel I am doing really great down 20 lbs in 2 weeks. I have no regrets, already feel so much healthier!! Cant imagine how I am gonna feel once I reach goal!
Wonderful! I had surgery on July 11, and my 51st birthday was in May. I had no problem with pain either. Unfortunately, I had some awful reaction in the hospital and suffered nausea and vomiting for almost 2 days after surgery. I'm just now being able to get down all my liquids. Walking is going great. I can tell things will be better and better. It's really nice to hear a positive, optimistic story.
Very well said... I am 52 and had surgery May 17th. I went through surgery perfect and didn't have but few problems after surgery. Right now I having issues keeping solid food down but dr. hopes by the 3rd month things will improve. I am hopeful and keep a positive attitude. I would do it over tomorrow even the problems I have had. I feel so much better than better surgery. Good luck to all of us!!
LIKE!!!! Had surgery the same day as you and am exactly the same. I had fears of dehydration, pain, trauma, and the like, and am so Psyched that I have been doing so good... My only regret is waiting as long as I did to have the surgery. I was reborn on July 5th and am looking forward to my new life
