How long after surgery did you go back to work?
At the time, I was working as a nanny with a two year old. I only took two weeks. When I returned, I couldn't lift her yet, so I modified things. Her mom bought a small stool and I carried it to wherever I need to help her climb up (the potty, the sink, in front of her seat at the table, to climb into bed, ect.). It was nice because if I needed, I had a built in nap time. I didn't pretty well.
I think it all depends on the person and their job as to how long you will need to take off. And honestly, I took a huge leap of faith by stating before surgery that I would only take two weeks. I was lucky that it worked out that way.
Also, I was 24 at the time. I think being young, that the surgery may have been less tramatic on my body than someone who is older than me.
Good luck with your surgery!

I had surgery on a Friday and took the entire next week off work. By Tuesday or Wednesday of the week after surgery I felt fine to go back but decided to just take the remainder of the week off. When I went back I did so without restrictions. I am a social worker and work both at my desk and in people's homes. I did refrain from traveling long distances that first week back per my choice.

I had an open RNY and could not imagine returning in a couple of weeks. My doctor also would not clear me before 4 weeks. I went back to work part time last week and today is my first day full time. My opinion is take as much as you can. You really need that time to heal and learn this new way of eating, drinking, etc.
I am an office worker and I took off 5 weeks. I used the FMLA and short term dissability. I also had myy gallbladder removed and had a lot of pain the first few weeks. I was feeling better at the start of my 4th week. I also had a lot of nausea and found it very hard to keep things down.
Good luck!
