How often do you weigh--and what does it all mean?

I'm in maintenance now and weigh a couple of times a week. Our scale broke 2 weeks ago and I must admit I felt a little panicked. I love my new scale.
For me, I have a 10 pound range I live with. It helps me to be less obsessed about counting every calorie that goes in.
So while I think the scale can be evil..at this point we are getting along fine.

I had lapband surgery about 3.5 years ago and a revision to RNY just 2 weeks ago.

Over the last 4 years I have weighed myself daily. To some it might just be a number on a scale but for me its a way to gauge my progress.

I also weigh everyday.  The first thing I do each morning when I get out of bed i**** the bathroom and then the scales.

My reason for this is not that I am obsessed with my weight, but rather I use this as a barometer for how I should eat during the upcoming day.  If my weight is up, I try to be a little bit more careful about what I put in my mouth.  If it's down, I just might allow myself a treat that day if I want one.

I think it is easy to let our weight get away from us, so I do remain watchful and react to weight gain quickly.  It's easier to be watchful of what I eat for a day or so than to have to diet away extra pounds that may have crept on when I was not looking.

Until maintenance and while in the losing phase, I weighed infrequently so I would not become discouraged seeing the natural up and down movements on the scale.  Now while in maintenance,  I weigh daily, no exceptions.  I had a few "off days" due to family coming in, etc., and I now have 4 pounds to lose.  That seems to be the cycle.  If I get off plan for special events, or whatever, a few pounds creep on, so weighing everyday is critical for me.  It forces me to see the result of getting off plan and motivates me to get back on plan, quickly.

I weigh myself once a week (every Monday) for my sanity.

If I weighed more often, I would probably be upset about a 1 or 2 pound gain, especially when I am menstrating.

By weighing myself once a week, I can keep myself acountable while not losing my sanity. If I am up from last week, than I take a look at what I am doing and tweek it. If I stayed the same, I may try to tweek something or just keep doing what I am doing. If I lose, I smile.

I don't think how often one weighs themself can actually have a correlation with their success. My parents, who have also had the surgery, weigh every Monday with me, but I have done better than them. I have lost more weight in less time, and am closer to my goal. They actually struggle with gaining some weight back.

Maybe, how often you weigh, may put some insight into your will power. At times, I think those who weigh everyday don't have the will power to wait a week to see the results. Maybe that is some insight into their willpower to avoid foods that we shouldn't have (or shouldn't eat often... it's okay to spluge every once in a while). And maybe for those who avoid weighing all together, want to avoid the results. Maybe they don't want to see that they have gain some weight back? I'm not sure. This is all a huge guess and also a huge strech. It sound kind of silly to me.

While I think how often a person weighs may have show some insight into that particular person, I really don't think it has anything to do with ones success.

I weigh everyday and I assure you I do have willpower, which is evident for keeping off 200 pounds at 3 years out. Be careful when making assumptions. And I do credit keeping a close eye on my weight to my success. It is much easier getting off 3 pounds than waiting until it is 20 or 50...

I wasn't making assumptions. Did you read the part where I said this all was huge stretch and kind of silly?

I weigh every morning and I will continue to do that after I reach goal, I'd rather correct a 2-5 lb gain than a 20 lb one!  I get anxious when the scale doesn't move for a week or two at a time.. but I was equally as anxious trying NOT to weigh for a week and the unknown!
