I just got off the phone with my surgeon. He had gotten a call from my NEW NUT. She had went over my paperwork and seen where my OLD NUT had put 64g of protein and 64oz of water on my chart. Was NOT happy. TOld my surgeon that I would need 90-110g protein and day and 70-100 fl oz of liquids a day. ARGHHHHHHH How in the world am I gunna do that? Is it ok to work up to getting that amount within a few weeks or should I do it right off? I am so confused........

I'm sitting here sipping a protein shake as I type. If you add in one of those, it will help considerably.

It will also add to your water!

Hang in there and do your best. You can get there.

You'll get there, out of surgery you will wonder how.  It does take time, as you can see others post their concerns and frustrations.

My best advice is to stay focused on the long-term and take each day as it comes.  There WILL be challenges, the rewards are worth it!

I am on 120-160 gr proteins a day.. But then - I did .not do it "overnight".  You will get there. Hopefully sooner than later..
Less that that a day -  and my labs show  "low normal".  Now - it is mid normal (finally).

Be glad you have a good nut... at least she knows her stuff.

Protein shakes - probably 50-100 gr per day + food. Meats, yogurt, cheese. fish...

In first year - I was 80-100 per day (mostly from protein shakes + some foods)

I get at least one shake 50 gr  in the morning. drink that over 1 hr. Use a good quality protein - whey isolate, low foaming, water based - it is thinner - so it also counts as water. I use up to 18 oz of water/ ice. The trick is to make sure that there is not too much foam.
Too much foam= getting full very fast.
Then I add proteins to yogurt, (greek yogurt, scoup of protein, some berries, some sweeteners to taste). mix . enjoy.  Eat slowly.
I do not use milk ( too much sugar - and too much gas)
I am 3 years post op - so I can eat a lot (relatively).
But on days I can't - I get another shake when I get home - before dinner.

Shake that has a lot of bubble - foam - will get you full, and not be able to finish.

Make sure that you use protein powder that you realy like - and that it taste very good to you - then you can drink it .

I use About time Whey. - all natural whey isolate.

Making sure you have BM daily - if not - and you constipated - may be difficult to drink proteins or anything.

BTW: yeasterday - it was not good day...lol.. ate too many carbs - but I did end us with 2 shakes - toatl 80gr proteins in shakes.  total proteins for the day was 130 gr.

Friggo Light cheese sticks - one stick 8 gr of proteins. (my cat loves them too)
and meatloaf - make mine low carbs- mix wth salsa - to get them moist. Can eat a nice slive of meatloaf (turkey or beef) with a couple of slices of cucumbers.

I do not eat starchy carbs - they do not agree with me. So I do eat meats, cheese, fish, proteins.

Making a protein ice cream - is a blast.

Happy to have a new NUT and new dietician. The old ones actually told patients that using a straw would cause ulcers after surgery and they were big on FLINTSTONE multis. *SHAKES head* The only GOOD advice they gave me was to attend support group meetings. Thank goodness SOMEONE actually took the steps to have them removed from those positions and got better ones in there. These two new ones actually return calls and they tend to be NO-bull****ters. Which I like.

Have you seen Katrina at Classen's office?  I really like her.  I have an appointment with her next month.  I have Tricare standard and I had to pay to see her but she was awesome. Everything will go well. Have you figured out what kind of protein you are going to try I have all kinds if you want to sample some.  Also Katrina has written a book  life after gastric bypass. I have all kinds of books if you want to borrow them before your date.
