Optisource PLUS iron?

I just got a bottle of Optisource Vitamins from Walgreen's - they were recommended to me by the nurse at my surgeon;s office a couple months back.  The vitamins were on total backorder at my local Walgreen locations, and yesterday I checked and they were back in stock. Since it has been so long since I discussed these with the nurse, I forgot her instructions.

I will be taking 4 per day, and I realize that I will still need Calcium Citrate...but will I also need to take my iron too?  I know that the vitamins themselves have SOME iron, but not enough. I just don't want to take too much iron between my normal iron AND the Optisource.

Am I OK to take the Optisource along with my 65 mg of iron from Nature Made (that would be a total of 95 mg of iron per day)?

If you use Optisource, you really need eight a day, not four.  The ASMBS says we need 200% of the RDA of most things and four Optisource only gives you 100% of many things.

Yeah, you do still need calcium citrate.  Optisource has only calcium carbonate, which you won't absorb.  So you need three to four doses of calcium citrate.

You'll also need B12.  It needs to be a sublingual, the patch, the nasal spray or shots.

If you take eight Optisource a day, that might be enough iron for you.  I forget how much iron is in one tablet and I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

I am having my surgery Sept 6 and these are my post op requirements:

a complete adult multivitamin or prenatal multivitamin
1200-1500 mg calcium citrate
1000-2000 IU Vitamin D3
500 mcg B12 that can be taken as a tablet, a fast dissolving strip placed on the tongue or sublingual
65-80 mg of elemental iron taken separately from calcium

In my opinion 95 mg is a bit high but you may want to discuss with your nurse. :)

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I am surely not going to want to take 8 of these bad boys a day...so maybe I will just get Centrum Chewables, and keep up all my other supplements as well (B12, iron, etc.).  Thanks for the input!
