Vitamins- AGAIN! (I know, I know but I swear these are new questions!)
Do you have copies of your current labs, each set may require you to tweek your intake.
I don't take all the separate Bs, I do take a super B complex twice a day, 2500 B-12 sublingual, 2400 of Tender Cal Mag D, 10000 iu D-3, 25000 A, 400 E., two Proferrin, 2 Tender iron with vit C.,
2 multi-vitamins per day. I think this is all. My K has been fine so haven't added that one.

Yeah, you've got the bare bones stuff right.
With Centrum, I personally would do the one with selenium. Then take iron separately. I'd do that for a couple reasons. If you menstruate you're gonna need more iron than what's in a multi anyway. Also, I find it easier to take a multi without iron because then I can take calcium with it and it works out to cut down on the number of times each day I have to take vitamins.
I would get labs done before starting a million "extra" vitamins. However, it is highly likely that you are already low in vitamin D because almost everyone is, even pre-op. So you could start D3 now. Or ask your doc to order that blood test now so you can see how much extra you need. There is a very good chance you will need more than 2400 IU a day.
The ASMBS says a B complex is optional. It sure won't hurt you to start taking one now, but it's very unlikely to hurt you if you wait 'til you get labs done, either.
The A, E, K, zinc, ect. I would only start taking extra if your labs show you're deficient. There is a good chance at some point you will be low in at least some of those things. But starting a million vites all at once is gonna be pretty overwhelming.
Just make sure, when your doc orders labs, he checks all the stuff like zinc, A, E, K, etc.

I swear you guys are my heros! THANK YOU!
I ordered D-3, Calcium citrate and Tender Iron with Vitamin C, along with a bunch of other stuff. I'll get my multi at Costco and wait for my labs to see how the rest turns out!
I can't believe I have spent an entire day trying to figure this out! Crazy!

Wow, that is quite a list and most of it is totally unneccessary.
As far as the centrum goes, get the centrum silver chewables - they have no iron but do have selenium. You need the selenium and the iron in the multi's is the wrong type of iron, so you need to take separate iron anyway. You only need extra selenium if you test deficient - I take extra selenium because I am deficient.
the calcium is correct - 1500-2000mg per day, citrate - in 3 daily doses, no more than 650mg at a time and not within 2-4 hours of your iron or thyroid medication.
B12 - either injection or minimum of 1000mcg of sublingual B12 and adjust based on labs - most need a higher dose of the sublinguals.
B complex isn't needed - we dont' need all the b vitamins since we get them our multis and our B6 levels tend to run too high and with a B complex, it can run toxic. Just get a vitamin B1 - 100mg daily - that is the B vitamin that you need.
Vitamin D - we need dry D3 and the dosage depends on your vitamin D level but the majority of us are deficient and need to take 50,000 units a few times per week or atleast 10,000 units per day. If you don't know your level, get it checked so you can take the proper dosage but don't take gelcaps or prescription D.
Biotin is a personal preference - I personally don't know if it does anything.
Vitamin A depends on your labs - you need to get your levels checked since some of us do run deficient - I was deficient at about 5 months out and I take 50,000 units per day but I have never heard of an RNY patient taking more than that - the dosages you listed are for DS patients. You only want to take if you need it - too much is no good and not enough is no good.
Vitamin E and K are very rare also - get your levels checked - only take if you are deficient.
You should be taking carbonyl iron - you can get it from vitalady.com called tender iron - they are 60mg capsules and have the necessary vitamin C in them. Take 2 per day to start and after your labs you can adjust from there. This is what my NUT starts us on. IF you can't swallow pills yet, then she has chewables but they are only 25mg and don't have any vitamin C in them - so you would have to take 5-6 of them plus take 1000mg of vitamin C.
For your question - I actually dont know why you would want to take extra zinc unless you are actually deficient. You get enough in your multi taken 2 times per day. I actually came back on my labs once with a high zinc level with nothing other than my multi and had to cut back my multi for a month and has been fine since. You dont want extra zinc. High zinc levels are no good plus zinc interferes with calcium absorbtion.
B1 and b complex I explained above.
Folic acid you only want if you have low levels and most of us actually have high levels which is what we want. So, I would supplement until you get your labs. You want your folate to be greater than 20, if not - then get some folic acid. You also want it if you are pregnant.
Some people take magnesium citrate to help with calcium absorbtion. I find I absorb it fine without the magnesium and dont' need another supplement.
