Nausea and milk???

I have been doing protein shakes since day 5 (with milk since day 10).  Lately when I have a shake with milk, I am getting a little queasy. I am using regular skim milk. Anyone else have this happen to them? It lasts maybe 10-20 minutes after finishing it. Not enough to get sick, but enough to be a pain!! I find drinking tiny sips f water seems to help.  On days when I do eggs or cheese for breakfast, no nausea. I am down to just one shake a day, when I have them and they are always in the morning.

Just wondering if I am the odd ball or if anyone else has this.   I really don't want to give them up, need the protein. But jus****er in them now is just so blah! Even tried 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 water and still feeling queasy..

Thanks!!

Shannon

Milkshakes...

They make me sick! I don't know why but they do. I get nauseated and so weak feeling. I think its either the sugar in the chocolate or milk itself. Its a bad feeling to the point I have to lay down.
Is it Hyperglycemia or Hypoglycemia or Reactive hypoglycemia?
(Just in case you wonder I drink my protein shakes with water.) I know some people think its nasty but if you get use to it its not a big deal.

I think its one of those. But still I use to like milkshakes but now not anymore...

(I deleted my topic Milkshakes!! moved it here with your post.)

 Hi Shannon!
I was having the same problem with my morning shake.  I started using Silk unsweetened Almond Milk and no more nausea after my morning shake now.  Seems to be working for me.  Just a suggestion.  Hope you figure it out soon!

I never liked milk, but I tried it for the protein.  I too had a severe reaction to milk based protein shakes. The pain and nausea was unbelievable.  I've read that lactose intolerance is a common side effect from WLS. I find that the commercially prepared protein drinks sit better, even though they are more expensive than a tub of protein powder. Unfortunately for us, it's trial and error till we find a good one.  Hang in there and good luck!

Des, you are right! I did get some already prepared shakes for those times when I can't make one and they do sit better with me.

I was wondering about the almond milk or that hood carb countdown milk. I didn;t know that lactose intolerance could be a side effect, but it makes sense since some people can not longer tolerate certain things after surgery.

Thanks, ya'll. It is grocery day tomorrow, will maybe try the almond milk and if that don't work, then I will do them with water.

You are probably lactose intolerant after surgery. Many people are for a period of time.   I am.  I never had a problem before.  But I finally realized that when I had milk (which is not often) I either get the foamies and/or the runs.  I use almond milk with no problems.  I haven't tried soy milk yet.  Next time I am at Starbucks it will be with soy.

I too became lactose intolerate.  I can't drink skim milk or eat yogurt or eggs.  I started using the soy slender which has more protein then almond milk and I have no problems at with it.  Though I look forward to the day when I can eat eggs and yogurt again, I miss them.  Good luck.

I am 8 years post-op and still cannot drink milk, eat yogurt, or any dairy. I know a lot of people that have the same problem from having this surgery. I guess it's just one of the trade offs we make. Good luck.
