I had a revision from Band to RNY back in January and was sent home with the JP drain.

It was in for about two weeks. It's not the prettiest thing but... was no biggie (just felt funky when she pulled it out!

Oh and my procedure was laproscopic.

I've been declared a slow loser - and couldn't be happier!!

My doctor had no choice but to do an open RNY.  He had to repair the  major "screw up" that my first surgeon did to me.  My case was VERY unusual.  I had  alot of damage from years of acid reflux disease...on top of a lot of scar tissue.  I saw six doctors before I finally found one that would even consider doing a revision on me.   I was told by ALL of them that they "had never seen anything like this"...and that they could not help me.  None of them could even figure out what kind of surgery the first surgeon performed...they did not even recognize the anatomy!!!

I was so surprised at how quickly I felt relief after my RNY.  Wynter...don't be nervous.  The sooner you get rid of that old VBG the better you will feel.  I am SOOO glad I had that revision.  I feel better than I have in the last 25 years.  I really have had very few problems.  I have only vomited 3 times since November...all of them my own fault for eating too fast.  With my VBG...I vomited everything I ate...for 24 years!!!!   I survived on high calorie liquids and slider foods and promptly gained 40 lbs.  Now I can eat dense meats with no problem...It's WONDERFUL!   You will do GREAT!  I'll keep you in my thoughts tomorrow!

I had a lap RNY and had a JP drain when I came home.  I think I had it for a week or a week and a half.  It wasn't really a big deal.  I suppose if you're really squeamish that could be a problem.  I've definitely noticed that the scarring is different on that incision than on the others.  Now, at 7 months out, the scarring seems to be smoothing out (thank goodness).

I did not go home with a JP drain.  But, I did go home with a gastric drain in my remenant stomach due to an intestinal obstruction complication.  I had to keep it in for 4 weeks, but I was able to eat.  These kind of complications are really rare, so I wouldn't worry too much about them.
