RLS after surgery...I'm starting to get REALLY cranky now.

Since I had surgery, I have developed RLS but it is also in my arms. Last night I was lying in bed playing on my phone and my hand jerked so bad that my phone fell out of my hand. I went to my PCP and he put me on the lowest does of Mirapex and it did nothing. I called and he told me to stay on it for another week. If it's not working why would I continue to take it?
I am SO tired. It is hindering my sleep. I am getting constant headaches b/c I am so tired. IDK what to do. I am already a crab ass and to add this to it isn't fair to my family. I know it isn't any meds I am taking b/c they were stabilized prior to surgery and this developed after surgery. It is generally happening at night while in bed, but a few times it has happened while I was on the computer also.

I am just so cranky and I've been stalled Since Aug 6th. Ugh... Woe is me. LOL

When were your last labs?   How is your iron, CBC, ferritin, iron sat%?  I was having RLS symptoms when my ferritin tanked.  Vitamin B deficiency and magnesium should also be checked as those can also be culprits.

Not to sound ignorant but what is RLS?

RLS is Restless Leg Syndrome. It's not limited to the legs though; my arms have been twitching since surgery but not enough to be disruptive.

Shellbell, I have no advice to give you but I wanted to wish you the best in dealing with this. Exhaustion is a beeyotch. Hope you feel better soon.

I recently read that Restless Leg Syndrome can be related to B6 levels but if I remember correctly it is from high B6 levels not low.  Do you take a B complex in addition to your multi?  If so, I would stop it until you get your labs.  Many of us have high B6 levels which are not good and if get high enough can become toxic.  You get enough B vitamins in your multi except for B1 and B12 - B12 you need to take sublingual or injection and B1 - you should take separately 100mg daily.

Other possibilities are magnesium, B1, B12, copper - these can all be related to nerve damage from low levels.  B1 and B12 can be dangerous - if defient for long periods of time can become permanent.

I would get to your doctor ASAP and get some labs done.  I would ask for B1, B6, B12, magnesium, copper, selenium, zinc (zinc and copper are related), iron, ferritin, calcium - these are basics for your symptoms.  IF you can get a full workup that would be great.

I had rls, mostly my arms right after surgery. I never had it before, but it did work itself out within 1-2 months. Still annoying, but it did go away.
