Flinstone Vitamins=My Nemesis

The "everyone is different" argument for people that want to take Flintstones never makes sense to me.  As you say, the physiology is very similar.  I might need more selenium than you, or you might need more vitamin A than I do, but we both need some vitamin A and some selenium.  Your body is not so miraculously different than mine that it requires no selenium in order to function.

The "all surgeons/nuts are different" argument makes even less sense to me.  Sure, they are all different but their differences do not change our physiology.  If my surgeon says I need a vitamin with selenium but I would prefer to take Flintstones, should I just change surgeons?  If Dr. A is my surgeon, will my body need selenium but if I switch to Dr. B, will my anatomy somehow change so that I will no longer need any selenium?  Somehow I doubt it.  No matter what my doctor says, my body is going to need what it needs.  I mean, if some doc told you that you did not need oxygen, would you then suddenly stop needing it?

What about multivitamins that you can swallow? My NUT said I can start taking them at 6 months out. Is this true? I absolutly HATE the chewables.

The ASMBS says you can start taking them as soon as you can comfortable swallow them.

Well the Flinstones debacle is one of the main reasons I "fired" my nutritionist!

My surgeon gave the all clear for swallowable pills at 6 weeks post op, that day did not come soon enough for me I hated the chewable vits!! I got the CVS spectravite senior non chewable 365 tabs In the bottle BOGO sale and it was only 19.99, I take 2 per day so I got the whole years worth for 19.99! I thought that was a bargain.

My NUT has also said Flintstones are ok, but so are Centrum Silver Chewable amongst other chewable brands.

However, here's my thinking and take it for what it is worth.  I intend to either do Centrum Silver or a different chewable, but NOT Flintstones.  Flintstones is a children's vitamin and I am not a child.

Another point to your hubby might be that if you have to take two Flintstones instead of one, it is going to cost twice as much.  So, why not get an adult chewable and take just one?  Might still be a bit more $$wise, but why chew more of those darn vits than you have too.

The OP had RNY, so she needs two Centrum (or other good adult multi) a day.  Her hubby had the band so he only needs one multi a day.
