Suggestions for Back Pain For New Post-Op?
Ok, I have had back pain since I had surgery. The nurses in the hospital said that it's either/or the gas they pump into you for lap surgery OR the way they had you laid out on the operating table.
Any ideas on how to help this?
How long did it last?
I have been taking the Lortab Liquid but have been trying to slowly wean myself off of it. It's very hard even doing my walking inside my house because I have to hold my back. If I need to make myself something at the kitchen counter for example, I have to bend over and lean my elbows on the counter to feel relief from this back pain.
Thanks for any ideas! I'm only 8 days out.

I had bad back pain also. I didn't seem to have much gas so I think it was from how I was hung on the table. I used a heating pad on my back several times a day. I also put a lumbar support (pillow) in my recliner to make it more comfortable. As soon as I thought I could lay on my tummy, I went to the chriopracter and did that a couple of times. I't better now but it took a while. My chro thought that as I lost weight, my spine kept repositioning and kept needing to be adjusted.
Wish I could have told you better news but at least you aren't alone.

Thank you for your reply and your suggestions. How long did it take before your back did not hurt any more.
I don't understand why or how they lay you on a table that your back did not hurt before and now it does. Very stressfull as well.

It was a long process and a lot of adjustments. I know at my 6 month appointment I was still having some issues. Maybe those were more related to my changing shape instead of surgery.
Evidently they kind of suspend you from your arm pits (think on a cross) at an incline so you aren't just laying on a table. My surgery was 3+ hours because of the hernia repairs and adhesions so I guess that had something to do with it.
Hope yours gets better soon.

My goodness, I had NO idea they suspend you like that. Well, I was told I was on the table for 5 hours due to lots of scarring from my VBG many years ago.
You would think they would do something to protect your back. This really angers me as I did not go into this with wanting to have a bad back.
Thanks for the info.
