mmm my favorite salad is baby spinach, feta cheese, almonds, and dried cranberries with grilled chicken and a balsamic vinegar dressing.

Now that sounds really good!  I think the spinach would be better right now since I'm not that far out of surgery.

Not sure about the almonds either but I guess I could crush them up.

Thanks!

I was at least 6 months out before i was able to any salad.

I was more than a year out before it became a food I can go to on a regular basis.

I still don't do iceberg lettuce.. romaine or spring mix is what I prefer.

as for pasta salad... NO Way... even now I eat a bite or two of macaroni salad only... pasta is like lead in my pouch...

my plan does not even permit pasta at all in the first 6 months

I didn't try salads until I was almost a year out from surgery and when I did have them I always used fresh spinach.

I actually went to a restaurant this past weekend and had a salad with iceberg lettuce in it and it made me sick.  That stuff is garbarge anyway and doesn't have any nutrients in it anyway so I am perfectly happy with fresh spinach.

Everyone tolerates things differently but sometimes raw veggies are a bit tough to digest especially when you are early out.  I would suggest making a tiny salad and seeing how it goes if you really want to try it.  Or if it isn't that big of a deal I would just wait.

On a recent trip to Subway I ordered a salad. I found that I ate the meant and a few veggies and left the greens because I was full. It had not occured to me what a filler salad is. Next time I plan to ask for a small amount of baby spinach and watery vegetables. Protien first. Pasta and other starchy salads are just too heavy and not worth it to me. Kahwren

I was told I was "allowed" salad at 6wks. I tried one and it went fine - just a garden salad. A few days ago I ordered one from a pizza place. It was a southwestern chicken salad with corn, black beans, tomatoes, and of course chicken. I made sure to eat the chicken first and then small bites of lettuce. I really liked it. I didn't have any problems but you do have to be sure to get your protein in.

Hey guys! Just called my surgeon's office and spoke to the nurse she said they don't want you to eat pasta because it doesn't have any nutritional value. You can have it like further on down the line but right now it's PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN. Does anyone have any other alternative I can use in place of pasta...wanted to make spaghetti this week.

When I have spaghetti I use canned french style green beans with a portion of a very meaty sauce on top. ( ground turkrey or italian style turkey sausage) That way I still have the feel of pasta but not the heavy poorly digested spahetti in my gut. Many time I just eat my meaty sauce by itself. Kahwren that sounds good I will have to try that!

I'll get some french style green beans tomorrow....I'll just give my neighbor my pasta I brought then. I brought some italian turkey sausage today too! Glad I did, I'll use it! Thanks! One more thing....did you use fat free shredded cheese on it?

My plan allowed salad and raw veggies at 7 weeks out, and I did well with salad, and still do. Onions, lettuce ****berg), spinach, romaine, tomatoes, meat and cheese, no problems.

I haven't even thought of trying pasta yet and considering some of the problems I've had lately with my stomach, I won't try pasta for a long while.
