It's been a while UPDATE on vitamin issues

Hey I posted a while back about pain on my left side. I ended up in the ER with severe pain that lasted 5 days. All they could find on my x-ray is that it looked like I was backed up. Well, I took everything and tried everything they asked and I feel a little better but still not 100% right.

I went to the doctor today, and he's thinking possibly a hernia, so I'll be going in for more reguarding that.

HOWEVER about the VITAMIN D deficiency, they were able to verify that but ALSO noticed that when I had my last year bloodwork run that my B12 was never checked at all. So, my new doctor ordered a complete bloodwork. They took 6 vials of blood. Hopefully my d is back on track because I did order the high potency from vitamin lady as some of you recommended. My energy is still low, so the doctor is thinking it's possible my b12 levels may be low. We shall see. Just wanted to let everyone know that I FINALLY got into the doctor, after one cancelled appointment due to my original assigned doctor deploying.

Oooh and I thew out those cheap prenatals that the military hospital was giving me, and I'm back on bariatric advantage and I already feel somewhat better!! :)

I'm glad to hear they are checking things out.  You definitely need your B12 checked.  But was this blood draw of six vials supposed to be your full set of labs?  Or just checking things that were missed last time?  Because your full set of labs should be much more than six vials.  More like 16.

Glad you are back on top of the Vits.  How often do you get labs done?  Even if you are a couple of years out, annual is a minimum.

I get mine done every year, and from what the doctor told me today he is doing complete bloodwork, and checking everything. I dont think I've ever had more than 6 vials in the past I know I've never had 16. My new doctor seemed a quite a bit more educated about gastric bypass than my last.  I'm also getting a referall to go back to a surgeon to make sure everything is where it should be, since my surgeon has retired.

They cannot check everything with just six tubes of blood.  The number of tubes may vary slightly from lab to lab because they can use blood from one tube for more than one test, but it should be around 15 or 16 tubes.  If your PCP ordered the labs, he may not have known what needed to be checked.  I take a list to my PCP when I go to get labs done.

They always draw 15 to 16 vials when they do my bloodwork too.  Six doesn't sound like near enough.

holy crap, maybe they arent checking everything then. I know they were larger vials. But even when my surgeon was the one who ordered my bloodwork they only ever did 6, maybe 7 at most.

Even if it's six large vials, that won't do it.  That's because the blood sample must be treated differently for different tests.  Like, some must be protected from light.  And you know how they have vials with different colored tops?  Some of the vials have different stuff in them that is needed for certain tests.

Your surgeon may not have ordered everything either.  Some docs don't, I don't know why really, unless you specifically request certain things.

Would you be willing to share with me what I should be asking them to check?  I Just really want to feel better again.
