Can't decide RNY or VSG
I think you have to balance the post-op expectations with side effects. When I was deciding, I balanced the long-term outcomes versus both what I could tolerate and what my food weaknesses encompass. In selecting RNY, I felt that a permanent disconnect from sugar would benefit me. I was uncertain whether I could completely rely on self-discipline to keep me from "cheating" in terms of food choices and grazing. Hard rules and eliminating some choices appealed to me. Ultimately, you and your health care have to decide. And about those regrets - don't even go there. You can't go back. Look forward to the better life you have chosen, whichever procedure you have. Of course, the financial incentive is a balancing factor for you as well.
Sounds like your surgeon isn't helpful with your processing the options -- really too bad because mine was really helpful.
Consider making an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss the options and what would be best for you. I did, and it was really reassuring.
Good luck with whatever you decide,

well if you are self pay for VSG and DS, I would also take that into strong consideration. If things go wrong you could end up with huge bills maybe. The piad-for RNY might be your best bet, although I can not look into your wallet
Truth is, you can probably have a bit of bad luck with any surgery, complication wise. And you can also probably make a success of any of these surgeries, as long as you realize it is a tool and you will still have to work hard for it.
I trecognize your confusion. I also doubted many years beforehand. And would maybe at that pioint in time rather have the VSG or DS, but insurance and dr-wise, that was not happening for me so I had to 'make do' with RNY and I never had a single regret so far
