I'm curious did anyone have alot of nausea during thier pre op diet?  I am only allowed my protien drinks, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, broth, and of course water.

thanks for any insight.

Are the protein shakes low in sugar?  Are you making them with milk, and is that more milk than you normally drink in a day?  Are you spreading the protein shakes out over the whole day?  Not drinking one shake at 6 am and another at midnight with only clear fluids in between?  How many ounces of liquid are you getting in?

I am using Nectar by syntrax.....low in sugar.  I'm making them with water.  I am not drinking any milk at all.  Doc says no dairy.  I am having one at breakfast, one at lunch, and one at dinner time.  I mix 8 oz of water with each protien drink.  I am also having chicken broth, and drinking water as well.  I would say probably 20-40 oz of water in addition to what is being mixed in with my protein.

So you are getting 44 to 64 ounces of fluid a day.  64 should be the absolute minimum.  Try increasing your fluid and see if that helps.  You also might want to increase the protein - do a shake in the evening before bed, maybe.

When we did our 4 week pre-op diet it was 5 shakes a day and one small food meal.  I would up your protein shakes.  Even with the 5 and food, some folks got nausea but it was better after the first few days.

Nectars are good protein but your calories are way low if that is all you are having.  A couple of days is one thing but it sounds like you have a couple of weeks?

Since I've had my surgery, I've noticed that when I'm so hungry I'm not hungry any more, I get nauseaus.  I would look at the doctor's plan.  How many shakes do they allow you.  During my pre-op, I was only on shakes, but at the beginning had 5 a day.

I was only onth eliver shrinking diet.  Which is 2 protein shakes for meals, i regular meal lean meat veggies whole wheat toast or lean meat and salad.  The 3 snacks  low fat cheese sticks, yougurt , fruit , cottage cheese etc.  I staye dnauseas and lightheaded,  my sugar was dropping on this regime. I called the bariatric center and told them what was going on, i had to add an extra shake and snack into the routine.  They said as long as i chose form the list that would be fine.  I would call your center to see what they suggest.

Good Luck hun!

It is soo worth it!!!!!!!!
