Did anyone have to go thru blue cross blue shield federal basic in Idaho to get approved this year. If so I was really curious how long it took to hear back from them if you were approved or denied.

I have BC/BS federal in TN and it only took a week to get approval. Hopefully things aren't that different in Idaho. Good luck!

Thanks I hope so to. I have my last required appt on Nov 1st and I guess the surgery is being scheduled about 6 to 8 weeks out and I was really hoping to have it done by the new year.

I think I had my approval (WA state) within about 10 days. They gave an
approval date range (surgery approved from this date to this date).  I
was a bit panicked because it was right before Christmas, but my
surgeon got me in on the last day of the authorization. Whew!
Good luck!

THanks for the response. I'm hoping theres people who don't want to do it before the holidays so I can squeeze in. I'm ready to start my new life.

Make sure you have the surgery before Dec 31st. I was approved last October and wasn't scheduled until Jan for surgery. It was canceled because BC/BS FEP changed their pre-op requirements for the new year. I did have surgery in April once I met their new requirements. Good luck once again.

I have fepblue basic and may have to think RNY instead lapband and wondering what's out of pocket? I am l kinda bummed right now as I* was on my last weight in , now I have to do a swallow test, esophageal manometry,, if it don't pass- no lap band,- anyone ??

I wanted the lap band at first but then changed my mind. It is actually cheaper to do RNY, because in some cases the lap band device could fall under durable medical device and you would have to pay 30% of that. I will have to pay 300 for both surgeon (150 copay each) and 300 for hospital stay and thats if I am there for 2 days. If I have to stay longer due to complications then I will have to pay up to 500 for hospital stay. But it that happens and bcbs will pick up the rest after 500. Sorry its such a late post.

Thanks but i see it takes 3 weeks recovery- I do not have that time nor support- I live alone and getting one or two days family help be the best I can get, so lap band or nothing - I'll know how it goes after  the manometry test. If I cannot do lap band then i need to change all the plans for maybe next year and maybe go from basic to standard as they say hosp stay is better under standard. but thanks for the reply!  BUT***
Am I correct that recovery takes that long? As i just completed all of the requirements, although my present surgeon does not like anything but lap band, it be the best time to switch as all is done.  Can anyone can enlighten me,about basic vs standard and recovery? I need to be prepared by next week what to do. aghh, Ok im calm,
