I know I read on here from lots of people that using strws is not a bad thing. But why is it that they tell you not to use a straw? I am so confused by this... What is the reasoning behind it??

In the early days, straws can add to the air in your stomach and cause gas pains. I started using straws 2 weeks after surgery and have never had an issue. Just sip slowly. If you get too much liquid in your mouth, just don't swallow it all at once.

I don't know the reason.  Who told you not to use one, your doctor?  Perhaps you can ask him the reason at your next appointment?

Actually I get more air when I don't use a straw!  My gas and burping issues went away when I started to use a straw.

I am going to my one week post-op meeting with my surgeon tomorrow, and straws are high on my list of questions.

Try as I might, my sips when not using one are much bigger than when I was using one pre-op! I am hoping that he will give me the OK to start using one again. It is so frustrating.
