Spider Veins and Varicose Veins - Any Improvement?
If you are one of us "unlucky" souls with lots of spider veins and varicose veins, did you see any improvement in them when you lost weight?
With this last weight gain, I now have a lot of ugly spider veins on the sides of my feet and there are a lot of flip flops and sandals I'd like to wear but these veins are ugly and make me feel self-conscious.
I never thought to ask this question because I thought if you had them, you'd always have them, but I was just reading something online that says that part of helping to get rid of these veins is by maintaining a healthy weight, so it occured to me that perhaps they improve some when we lose weight?

I would think it could prevent new ones, but I still have the same couple of small ones I had before surgery. Also, varicose veins occur in thin or heavy people, more a heredity issue I think than necessarily a weight issue. There are some good waterproof leg makeups out there...almost like bronzers or sunless tanners only with more coverage, so you could wear your sandals and shorts.

It has not had an effect on my existing spider veins. Losing the weight may prevent future ones. I also have those big ropy veins on my thighs. They actually look worse. My doctor said that is because I have less fat in my thighs to puff them out. I may look into having them removed. Whatever. I'm too old to wear shorts anyway, or I wear ones that come to my knees. If I wear a skirt that is above the knee, I wear it with tights. And boots! I'll take ropy veins sticking out in a size 6 body over less puffy veins in a size 20 body any day!!
Funny Wynter, I was just thinking the same thing this weekend. I have had them on the insides of my knees for as long as I can remember - probably associated with dramatic weight gain from my pregnancies many moons ago. However, since my sugery, I have noticed spider veins on my shins and what now looks like a spider vein tramp stamp on my low back that I'm pretty sure wasn't there before either. Not sure if they showed up after surgery, or if they were there and I just couldn't see them because of bumps and bulges obstructing my view. I don't have any vericose veins that I can see and knock on wood, none will show up. That said, my sister had her's treated after surgery with lovely results.
