so I got my sleep study test results today!
So...I should be having my surgery in about a month and a half but I got a call today about my sleep study results and she told me that I stopped breathing 45 times for 10+ seconds and my oxygen level is supposed to be above 90 while sleeping and mine was in the low 70's. I was like...well I am very surprised...I didnt think I had it!!! She says "oh thats not all" I was like thers more?!?!? She said they have diagnosed me with periodic limb movement disorder? She said I had 63 muscle spasms in my legs while I was sleeping!!! OMG!! I am sooo happy I have an answer for how all this wil be fixed! This is sooooo terrifying!!! But, I know there is some hope once I have my surgery done :)
If your surgeon is like mine, you will be told to bring your CPAP mask, if you have one, to the hospital with you. Just the mask--they provide everything else.

No..I do not have a machine or anything!! I never even knew I had it until today! The lady told me I could get a machine but since I will be having my surgery and will have a fix, not sure I should get a machine? I do have to go back to the sleep center and have another sleep test with their machine.
I don't know. They'll tell you what you need to do. But if it is severe, they might tell you to go ahead and get one as it may take up to a year or more for your weight to get down to where the condition is more manageable,].
Also ask if anyone here has expereince with that situation.

yes u will have to go back to the sleep center and they do the test with a machine on you at nite and u will be hooked up to all the wires again to i have sleep apnea myself and have a machine
Your surgeon will tell you what he wants you to do, but I'll share what mine had me do:
I went to the 1st sleep study while I was still pre-op. They determined I had sleep apnea and set me up to have the 2nd sleep study before my gastric bypass surgery, so I would have my C-PAP machine to get used to it before the surgery, use it in the recovery room after surgery, and at home there-on after. My surgeon told me the reasons for this were 1) my safety in the recovery room and 2) better healing after surgery. He told me that our bodies do a lot of healing while we're sleeping and if I wasn't getting good rest during my sleep it would affect my recovery.
I'll also say that I have an appointment with my sleep apnea doctor this Friday to adjust my C-PAP pressure because I've lost 85 lbs so far and feel like the pressure is too high for me now. I still use my C-PAP every night, and although it took some getting used to, I love how well I sleep now...like a baby! Still, it will be a big NSV for me when I no longer need the machine!
Best wishes!

Ask your surgeon. You'll need to be evaluated by a pulmanologist to see what pressure you need to set the CPAP machine. I had to bring my cpap mask to the hospital when I had RNY. For insurance reasons, the hostital would NOT allow me to bring my CPAP machine. They just set the pressure on their hospital CPAP machine to my pressure, and I used my mask. Knowing you have sleep apnea will likely allow your anesthesia doc to mix the right mixture so you wake up correctly. I had a colonoscopy a year or so before my RNY. Anesthesia doc there told me they "modified" the anesthesia so I'd wake up easier after the test. DAVE
