6 month labs and I have toxic level Vitamin D

I just got my labs back and I have now gone from a low 23 on my Vitamin D to a high 204!!!!!  Now my PCP wants me to stop taking my Vitamin D until we can get out of the toxin range.  My B12 was at 946 which she considered high and wants me to back off two doses of the B12 too.  Also, my B7 is high so there go my B-Complex.  Everything else looks great.  Kelly, I would like you to look at my other numbers but I will have to list them later this afternoon when I get home from work.  Do you think I should stop the Vitamin D completely?  I so confused now.

I'll let others comment on the rest, but I have to say a B12 of 946 is pretty great and I don't know why your doctor is asking you to skip doses.

You have the highest D I've ever seen!  Don't worry, it's not causing you any problems right now, is it?  I would cut back on it, sure, but don't panic or anything.  How much D have you been taking?  I would not stop taking it altogether, because if you do it will be sure to drop too low again.  I would rather not play a yo-yo game with it, where I wait until it's seriously low, then take some to get it up high again, then let it drop really low again.

Your B12 is perfect, though.  I would absolutely not cut back on that.  It can drop quickly and can cause PERMANENT nerve damage if it gets too low.  Around 1000 is actually ideal for B12.  And it can safely be much, much higher.  If mine got close to 2000, I would cut back a little.

I'll be happy to look at the rest of your numbers when you get home from work.

At least we all know you've been taking your vitamins!

Don't FREAKIN touch the B12 levels, you're in the range desired of 900-1000.  You don't say how much D you take, and I'd assume it's the dry D3 form, probably the 50K IU dry D3.  I'd say that's the highest D level I've heard of too, but probabl not toxic. D levels may lessen shortly, so I'd not discontinue taking it. If you're taking it daily, then take it every other day.  Just cut back some. Desired levels are 80-90 or a bit higher. PCP's aren't normally "up to speed" on the needs of RNY patients.  My PCP said my D was "fine" at 65 and my B12 was fine at a 665.  My HMO bariatric liason doc said B12 should be the 900-1000, but thought B12 was kind of ok at 65.  I'm taking additional B12 now to get my levels back up. My D levels at 65 were from 4 of the 50K IU per week for over 2 years.  I've taken a 50K IU dry D3 daily for a year now, and hopefully my D labs will be in the 80-90 target range. DAVE

You most certainly are at a toxic level - 100 is considered to be the highest desired level for a human being - makes no difference whether you have had WLS or not!!!! There was someone else on here a couple of weeks ago with a level in the 230's (I think) so you are not the highest ever on here ...

I'm not sure why some people think that we have to have higher levels than anyone else - we may have to TAKE higher levels of vitamins to reach healthy levels but our levels don't have to be twice the same as a non-WLS person (last I checked we were still human beings)!!!

WLS determines whether you are able to absorb - your level has proven that you can absorb vitamin D overly efficiently ... The consequences of a toxic level of vitamin D are way worse than the consequences of a lower level!

A reduction in your vitamin D level would be a positive step right now ...

What D and how much are you taking?  If you are taking one 50000 i.u. a day, you can drop down to 5 a week instead of 7.  Drop down gradually, because it can tank as quickly as it goes high.

Your B12 is GREAT!  Do not decrease.  Keep doing what you are doing.

I would want that lab re-tested to confirm.

My D got up past 100 taking 50,000 IU everyday.. so I have cut back to 2x per week.  I just had my D drawn today so I don't know what it's come down to yet.  BUT what I do know is you cannot get toxic levels taking dry d3 it's water soluable.  Yes you should cut back because you don't need your D to be that high but  you are NOT going to hurt yourself.  I would cut back to2x per week and get checked again in a month or two then adjust up or down a pill til you are a nice 100. Check with vitalady if you are still worried she's done a lot of research!

I would not cut back on your b12
