Fiber and the dreaded C word....
i take two of the stool softeners daily. the walmart generic kind. costs me two bux for about a months supply. if i remember to take it daily i have no hard bm's. if i forget and things get difficult i will use a glycerin suppository. if things still don't move i will use an enema. only had to resort to that twice in my two years since surgery, thankfully.
i did the fiber thing but it seemed to make things worse for me. i was drinking all the water i could possibly get down. a huge amount of water. so my son suggested stool softener. i tried it thinking this isn't going to do a bit of good. boy was i wrong, and so happy about being wrong too...lol.
good luck

Ok I picked up some magnesium oxide pills this morning and will start those tonight. I am going to wait on the Miralax and see how these magnesium pills work first I don't want to create a diseaster HA HA
Thanks flying woman on the tip, the whole carb thing confuses the heck out of me! Like this morning I had some Fage yogurt with a half of banana and a few blueberries. 25 carbs alone but I know it's "good" carbs, hard to wrap my mind around it.

I take two Fiber Choice chewable tablets every morning with 32 ounces of water. If I am ever constipated I found that 1 cup of Organic Smooth Move Tea does the trick within 24 hours (it's a stimulant laxative tea available in most drug stores and grocery stores). If you try the tea limit yourself to one cup otherwise you will soon suffer from the opposite problem! Good luck :)
I'm two months out. I am still not eating too terribly much. If make sure I go every other day at a minimum. I had my first major problem earlier in the week - had to resort to manual intervention. Since then, I stepped it up what based Vitalady recommends (I believe):
1 400mg MagOx tab with each dose of calcium (for me 3x daily)
Hot tea first thing in the AM, on empty stomach
4 stool softeners (Colace - NOT Peri-Colace) daily (I do 2 in the AM, 2 in the PM)
I am a doing 4 tsps. of Benefiber in my hot tea daily, and a full dose of Miralax every other night before bed. I seem to be okay since starting this - going every other day with no issues now.

I have been very frustrated with the whole bathroom issue. I am tired of taking miralax and milk of magnesia all the time. I am now doing better with psillium fiber capsules taken in the afternoon and whole flax seeds in my yogurt for breakfast. I am feeling more "normal" with this routine. It doesn't totally rule out using other things but it has greatly improved regularity.
