I've experienced depression since I was about 12 years old.  Mine did not get any worse right before surgery, though.

Do you have a history of depression?  What do you think is causing the depression now?

How bad is it?  Do you just feel kind of down, or are you crying all day?  Are you able to sleep, or are you sleeping too much?  Are you able to take care of yourself, like take a shower and clean up your house and all the basic stuff?

I have been getting treated for depression for awhile now. I think its from not eating....sleeping...just getting nervous about surgery.

Are their specific things you are nervous about that it might help to talk about?

Do you see a therapist that you can talk to?

Keep tabs on your depression. You might want to journal the times you feel depressed now, and after surgery.  Depression is a common issue post op. If you notice symptoms getting worse post op, make sure you let your doctor know.  An adjustment in medication may be needed. Dave

Mostly folks seem to be all too aware of the upcoming surgery at about this time, and if their
going to back out, it's about now.

Clean out a closet or something;  go for a walk in the woods (it's beautiful in the fall); take your
DH or entire family out to the movies.

Hang in there!

I too suffer from depression.

Right before my surgery I did everything I could to keep busy, physically and mentally. I am one of those people who can make an excuse for anything. I know I could have talked myself out of getting the surgery if I wasn't careful. I was so scared.

Keeping busy, body and mind was the key for me. I am so glad that I did. I do not regret this surgery a bit. I am grateful to have my life back. I weigh less now that I did in high school. I'm actually hoping to attend my high school reunion in a few years...lol. I've seen those who picked on me in school and they all outweigh me now. I wonder what they'll say when they see me?

Met my first goal, met my second goal, met my surgeons goal. Now I have a new goal!
