5 days post op and HICCUPS!

So will hiccups destroy my surgeon's work on my innards? Tear my little pouch apart or separate my intestines at the connections? I have had not one but two excruciatingly painful cases of the hiccups this evening and I'm worried that they will cause damage!

It seems irrational, but they sure hurt like hell!!!

I've never heard of anyone having their surgery unravel because of a tough bout of hiccups. But, I am honestly surprised your hiccups hurt.  I had hiccups a lot in the first few weeks post op. But, as deep and constant as they were, they didn't hurt. Do they hurt differently than t6hey did when you got a bad bout pre-op?

My hiccups drive me crazy! I still have them all the time and Im so happy to read from the previous post that theyll go away soon....yes!

Yep, they calm down a lot. In the few weeks post op, I got full blown hiccups several times a day. How irritating! Later, I realized that a hiccup is a fullness signal for me. Now, if I am eating or drinking and I get a hiccup, I take it as a cue to quit. I hardly ever get a full on bout of hiccups now.

They hurt a little more than what they did pre-op, but I have had very painful hiccups before surgery. Good news (I guess) is afterwards I seem to be fine (sore in the abdominal muscles, but not doubled over or anything). Everything is still a little tender anyway just being 5 days out so the hiccups are definitely not welcome.

I know what you mean. I have had painful hiccups before. But, luckily not post op. Hopefully yours just hurt because you are still sore from surgery. I really doubt they're doing any real damage. I hope they get less frequent with time.

2 quick things...Post RNY, when you get the hiccups it usually means your pouch is full...Listen to it (you may be eating too fast).  Also when your nose starts to run...Your pouch is full.  Stop, wait, and obey your pouch!!

Pouch was definitely not full the first time I got the hiccups this evening. I hadn't "eaten" anything in hours and hadn't drank in a good 30 minutes. The second time around, fullness may have been the cause. Thanks for the advice. Who knew such strange things could be signs of fullness!  :)

Early out I got hiccups if I ate too fast. It was my slow down signal.
Now at the first hiccup, I drop my fork and I don't take one more
bite. It's my full signal.  Funny I know, but I've learned to trust
the hiccup since I still don't feel much hunger and I don't feel
full unless I've really overdone it, and I prefer to avoid that.

Im 5 days post off too and I hate getting the hiccups! They do hurt, I just try to drink something as soon as I get them so they hopefully go away quick. Im sure its just because we are still bruised and healing.
