Foods you can NEVER EVER eat again

Really?  I think she's nuts.

I have no problem eating salad, in fact had a big one for dinner last night.  Most post ops seems to be able to eat salad just fine.

I don't eat pasta often because I try to limit the starchy carbs and it feels kind of heavy in my pouch, but I can eat a small amount, maybe 1/2 a cup.

Oranges?  No problem for me there.

Why couldn't you eat a bite of cake?  If you eat a lot of bites of cake, you're not going to lose all the weight you want to lose.  But almost all post ops can tolerate at least a bite of cake.  About 30% dump on sugar, and I do, so I could not eat a whole slice of cake unless it was sugar free.  Then I could eat as much as I wanted.

Did you ask the dietician why she says you'll never be able to eat these things?

And I would suggest finding a registered dietician that has a clue about RNY.  Yours seems clueless indeed.

My girlfriend has the band and it has taken her 2 years to lose 50% of her extra weight... so not worth it.

Your dietician is a bone head.

I'd check into working with someone who has experience with weight loss surgery patients.

That is total non-sense! After about 7-8 weeks you can start introducing ALL foods back into your diet.  Of course sweets, carbs, etc. will be in moderation (not like you would have eaten before WLS) - but there shouldn't be any foods you CAN'T eat.  Of course there may be some that your body can no longer tolerate, but that is a try and see thing once cleared for regular foods.  Good luck!  And as someone else said - find a different NUT!

Sigh...this is exactly why I am going back to school to become an RD.

There really isn't anything I can't eat at 2 years out.  I have a limited capacity which I am quite thankful for.  I eat salads all the time...pasta I can eat, but really never cared for it to begin with.  In the first few months you won't be able to eat everything like normal, but after 6 months game on.

A lot of foods are trial and error. I have discovered that I can't digest chicken very well, no matter how it's prepared. Some people can't eat ground beef. It's something that is different for everybody. I had my first experience with dumping syndrome the other night. My mom made some stuff and sent it over, but I didn't know she put sugar in it. Not less than 5 minutes after I ate it I was flushed, sweating, shaking, vomiting...thought I was gonna pass out. Some people may not have had that reaction, but I know it's one I never want again. I have a friend who eats cookies and gets instantly sick, I have a friend who eats chocolate and is fine. Everyone is different and you can't let someone scare you into making a different choice. You chose RNY because that's what you wanted. You may not be as successful as you had hoped if you go with the band, but in the end you have to remember you are doing this for yourself (probably your children) and for your health. No one else.

i am just about 6 month post op and i eat just about anything, i only cook whole wheat pasta. i have not tried salads but will in time i right now chose not to except for pasta salad a little  with light dressing. i at this time try not to eat it so much cause i love pasta salad during the summer but usually put too much dressing on it, which was one of my down falls. i have hearned to eat slwer and sure not as much as i had before. i eat a banana once in a while but have not tried oranges. what ever i cook for my fiance i eat too just not as much and i learned to cook smaller portions enough just for us. i dont usually eat sweets unless i make them with splenda, but had a little bit of cake but never eat even a small piece cause to me  its the frosting too sweet. so if i make sweets i know it be sugar free or made with splenda not all that other sugars.. I do buy the sugar sweets for my finance for snack for work but it does not bother me having them in my home. Its all about self controland it has to start somewhere. better in home than when u have to go out for a party. At first i would not even touch sweets from any body but i have at times but also getting my friends to start making their sweets with splenda and not as much cause it does not take much to get that little sweetness in. My doc told me when i eat something try little at a time cause its all what the body can handle only u will know if ur body can take when u put in it. I dont drink much soda but its always sugar free drinks or water i drink and of course i will have a glass of 2% milk . never drink with meals which i had to learn to do that since i always drank with meals before. To me its all learn and have self control. Good luck on ur new journey what ever u choose......Roxanne

I personally feel that I've eaten enough cake, candy and cookies (and pasta) to last any normal person a lifetime!  At this point (not quite 6 weeks out), I don't want to test and see if I'm a dumper or not.  I'm hoping my feelings remain that way.  I think later on it's all about moderation.  I ultimately want to eat like normal, healthy person.
Just do your research and make sure what's right for you.  I'm very happy with my decision!

Good luck!

Tina
