Do I have to give up soda/cookies/pizza/pasta after surgery???
It is funny that you post this. When I first started to remotely think about having RNY about 4 years ago, I started to freak out and would have bouts of panic almost when I would think about 'well after surgery I will never be able to eat __'. Seriously, panic attacks. I didn't realize until 3 years later when I finally started the process for surgery that I truly wasn't ready for the surgery earlier.
Fast forward to being 10 months post op and I haven't had any issues with food. I don't dump. I know my limits. I can have 1 small cookie but not 2 or I will feel sick. Pasta is a no go. Pizza is a not go. Soda doesn't taste the same.
I found that as I have matured from this surgery that I honestly CAN live with out the crap that made me fat and I am way stronger than I thought I was.

I have to agree with you. At our support groups, there is an informational session beforehand for people thinking about having WLS...I'd say about half of the questions asked from prospective patients are questions of that nature..."Can I have.....Will I be able to eat....." etc. And I guess that's understandable for people who are just finding out about the surgery. Although, I kind of made up my mind a year ago when I decided on my RNY that there was nothing I couldn't live without in order to get my body back. I don't think theres a thing out there that tastes as good as being healthy does. You have to look beyond what you can't have and see what you DO have now.
When I first got my surgery I was told I will never have bread again. I would never be able to have cereal again. I still had the surgery. For me it was a life or death decision. I think it is for a lot of us. I had all the health issues my poor obese body could handle.
I think we just need to think about it like that. It's going to save our lives. If someone said either give up chocolate or die. Well no second thoughts there. Tho for some of us chocolate may seem like life...lol. When push comes to shove we do have to give up almost everything for a little while. Then we can start working some of it back in. Thats when we start deciding what we will eat. Not what we can eat, but what we will. Its a whole different mind set post surgery.
