Nystatin cream is needed to keep yeast overgrowth down. I also read on this site that you can purchase a powder at Walmart called Zeasorb. Apply to the area and you can also spray an athlete's foot spray to the areas . It must be kept clean and dry to begin the healing process. Vaseline is a petroleum based product and it isn't recommended. Also, cornstarch powder will encourage bacteria growth.

I have a similar issue.  What works for me is frequent batheing and baby powder.  I stay away from Gold Bond Medicated Powder because for me, it burns way too much.

If there is a yeast infection growing, definatley see a Doc about it.

A blow dryer set to the coolest temp to dry is a great idea.  (I do that too!)  Desitin may also be another option after showering to protect the skin and help heal the area.

Like others said, try to get it under control before surgery so that you have less of a chance of spreading an infection.  Good luck.

You are getting a lot of suggestions here, so I will add one more.  I used baby diaper rash ointment to clear my skin.  I used "Butt Paste" brand, which had the highest levels of Zinc Oxcide.

Good luck!

After trying everything under the sun (including some prescriptions) I tried a gel made by Monistat.  It has provided me much relief.

I've also have dealt w/this problem for years (especially in the groin crease area & under my breasts) after trying everything under the sun I finally found the things that work for me. First I shower every morning (2x per day in the summer), "only" use antibacterial soap (moisterizing soap makes it flare up), dry the area really well then use antibacterial spray....let it dry well again then liberally put baby powder on (corn starch makes it worse for me). Getting it rid of the problem is hard but keeping it from starting is easier once you find what works for you. Good luck, I know how misserable this can be.

I have not yet had surgery either but I've always been overweight and have dealt with these smelly rashes from time to time myself.  I found what works really well is an anticeptic surgical wash called HIBICLENS, which you can get over the counter at your local Rite Aid pharmacy.  It's pretty liquidy like iodne solution but it smells nice and works well. Just pour some onto a wash cloth into the shower and lather the rashy area.  Rinse good and dry well.  I personally found keeping the area clean and dry was best for me.  Sometimes I would take a thin T-towel and fold it lengthwise and place it in my underwear under the flap of skin to keep the two skins from rubbing together.  This helped both keep it dry and avoid itching.

Once I got the rash cleared up I started using Goldbond medicated powder after my shower each day.  I continued to use the wash for months and after drying off well would sprinkle a little of the powder in my fold of skin to keep it dry and the medicated part kept it from itching.

It's worth a try... I haven't had any problems in a long time.  After having the rash cleared up for a few months I stopped both the wash and powder and now just concentrate on drying off well after my shower.  Granted in the summer you may need to go back to the powder depending on how bad you sweat.

If it doesn't work though, call your doctor and ask if he/she can send you to a dermatologist.  They would be the best at helping you keep it under control.

Good luck to you!!

Peace & Blessings... Kelly

The PA at my Bariatric Center gave me a special white cloth with Silver in it. She said to tuck it underneath any areas that get irritated. She said it can be handwashed and the Silver remains in the cloth. I've complained to my PCP for years with not much advice. So far, this cloth is working wonders!!!

You can buy cotton flannel cloths at a dollar store. They are usually sold in packs of three and are bright yellow or orange, often with red thread around the edges. These are a great tool to help you. They fold up slim, tuck under the apron and help keep moisture wicking without aggravating the skin. When inflamed, you should wa**** frequently and well with an antiseptic soap like tereseptic, and treat it with a zinc rash cream like Penaten. Then powder and place the folded cloth, then just put on undies.

A dermatologist can also provide specialized creams for this kind of thing.
